I have a 74 *50 Commando with a balanced exhaust sytem (cracked of course). I plan to replace current exhaust with 750 exhaust pipes. Most Nortons I've seen have have a finned type of fastner holding the exhaust pipe to the head , described in the parts manual as a exhaust lock ring.
My 850 has a smoth type of connector that has several studs around the connector that can be accessed form the front of the connector . These studs appear like they are just tightend up against the head.
In the parts manual the only difference in the 750 and 850 exhaust ( besides the balancing tube) seems to be that the connection to the head has an additional part on the 850, called a Exhaust Pipe Collets. I'm presuming that this is the round portion i'm seeing n my exhaust system. The question is how do I get them off and what purpose to they serve? Should I reuse them with the new 750 exhaust pipes I plan to install?
