Does anyone know an easy way to remove or install the collar nut that holds the clutch lever unit to the inside tranny cover an a 74 commando. I do not want to tap it off with a hammer and drift. It will bugger-up the removal notch. Is there any simple modification of another tool without having to buy the special tool to remove it??? Thanks

Mark,

Try finding a piece of pipe with the same diameters as the lock ring. Then, using a dremmel tool and a hack saw, cut two dogs on one end of the pipe sized to match the slots in the lock ring. Next drill a 3/8" diameter hole through the other end of the pipe. The hole will permit inserting a phillips screw driver to be used as a lever when removing or installing the lock ring.

Reduce, reuse, recycle

Someone somewhere in my reading suggested that
a worn out lower fork bush will work as a good starting point.

Then apply Jason's method's.

I've never tried this myself; only read about it.
