I just installed cubman rear sets on my commando. Wow, does the new foot position feel weird. I have the levers angled downward slighty and they feel like they need to be angled down even more for my ankle to be in a comfortable position. On my first ride, they were anything but more comfortable. I'm wondering a few things, and hope some people will chime in with their impressions

1) Did it feel weird at first and then you eventually get accustomed to the new postion, or did it feel good right away? *(how tall are you?)

2) What angle did you set your control levers at? Using a clock face to discribe the angle... 3 O'clock? 4 O'clock? 5 O'clock?? more??

3) Got any general advise? Am I overlooking something?

... thanks

They felt great at first. Before on long rides I would get a little crampy and fold the passenger pegs down and ride that way.

I made adjustments to the kickstart lever so it would not hit my shin which required me to tweak the loop of the gear selector so they wouldn't interfere. I needed to open it slightly.

I would say that the rubber of the gearshift is at 3:30 in relationship to the footpeg.

This is really a personal thing. It's possible that its just not for you. I would not trade mine for anything.

What Pete said. But I am 6'1" 210 lbs.

To slightly address the kick start banging on my shin, I rotated the kicker CW 1-2 splineso, so it still bottoms out on kicks.

Never really been happy with this part of it, so I am looking forward to installing my new NYC Norton rear sets when I get to them on my just started resto mod.

Oh, used UK and flat bars.

Thanks for your responses. I naiively thought I would automatically like the new footrest position. I'm about 6'2" so I it didn't feel comfortable initially. I had the gear shift lever at about 5 O'clock. I have to try it at 3 O'clock and see if it's better. The markIII kickstart will actually work if I mount the gearshift lever at 3 O'clock, but won't work if I mount the shift lever lower than that.

My handlebars are nearly flat and 24" wide and look like this

Thanks again. I'm just going to give them a chance for a while and see if I like them or not. The fact that they initially felt weird may have a lot to do with my being accustomed to the old position...

Yes, I failed to mention, I had a MKIII kickstarter and I had to revert back to stock.
My bars are a little wider and slightly higher.

not certain rearsets and comfort go hand in hand, the point of them being a more aggressive riding posture. Anything that takes you away from a more prone riding position is not going to be comfortable. I have the madass rearsets installed with M bars, and though they are reasonably comfortable I wouldn't expect them to turn the bike into a long hauler...

Finally got the whole thing together and got out for a ride. It's all working fine. The only issue is the rider.... I'm so accustomed to the old set up where I could shift into neutral without having to look down because the neutral "click" was something that felt distinctly lighter than shifting into any gear and I had developed a feel for it when my set up was stock. I've got the new control levers adjusted to where I want them, but they aren't second nature to me yet, but I bet I will adjust to them quickly...

I'm glad I made the swap, because I have my bike set up as a sportbike with low, short handlebars and a bikini faring. That set up really fits well with rear set pegs and controls. Thank you all for your informative opinions and comments.
