Are #06-0828 ('69-'72) rear brake shoes interchangeable with #06-3417 ('73-'74) rear brake shoes on a "72 rear brake assembly? I would like to purchase a set of Ferodo #FSB922 shoes if possible. When I punch in #06-0828 on the British Cycle website, it says to use #06-3417. When that number comes up, it shows a Ferodo set, at a rather good price. I'd definitely get those, if I was sure they would fit properly in my '72 rear brake assembly.

the rear shoes didnt change, But just be careful with some of these aftermarket shoes,
for eg: Ferodo front shoes for Commando are not 8" they are 200mm which is 7.874" , even on the Ferodo box they come in it states 200mm
I purchased a set just to check, yep they are half worn out before you start.
So I'm wondering whether the ferodo rear shoes are 7" (177.8mm) or maybe 175mm
All aftermarket shoes that I buy and sell are rebonded oversize then sized 9arc'd)to exact drum size.
So just be careful which aftermarket shoes you buy

Yes, according to the AN and other websites.

06.3417
REAR BRAKE SHOES (PR) 7" (06.0828, 06.0013, NM16547, NM19584, A2/443, A2/444)

The reason for the apparent change in part number was due to the factory only supplying the rear shoes (as part 06-3417) and slippers (06-0013) separately from early '73. (according to Norton Service Release N3/34, Feb. '73. )

The front brake shoes (06-0006) and slippers (06-0013) seem to have been available separately from '68.

Get these from RGM and you'll actually be able to stop with the Norton stock brake. I mean like being able to actually lock up the rear wheel. Actually!

The RGM shoes really are a lot better than the rest. You'll think you have a disk back there at first. (Then you'll get used to it and realize that a disk would still be better. :) They smell real funny though! Kind of like they made them from something swept out of a barn. But they work!

L.A.B., I hadn't noticed the '73-'74 slippers when I was comparing shoe p/n's, thank you. Don, these shoes are going in that brand new rear hub of yours, so I'll let you know what I end up with. I'm not looking for a really strong rear brake. I never use it unless I'm on one of the many dirt roads around here, and then I'm looking for good modulation and not grabby. I have a good long history with Ferodo and I'm hoping their rear shoe compound is similar to the way their Platinum compound works. I'm still waiting to hear back from Michael at Vintage Brake who has been very helpful in the past.
