I cannot get the dummy axle out of the brake drum.I do not know if it is frozen into the inner race of the bearing .
does it come out the sprocket side?Looking at the parts diagram it shows that it should.I just do not want to beat
on it if I am overlooking something.I want to replace the bearing in the drum.Any help would be appreciated.

From memory, on the inside that mates to the hub there should be a molded washer that holds in a felt ring. It gets pried out and under that is a retaining circlip. Also from memory the manual takes a few readings in this area to figure out what they are talking about.

Here is a thread with some photos:

After taking everything on the rear axle assembly, repacking the bearings, and re-assembling,the wheel still drags
after tightening the axle in the proper sequence. The speedo casing has been rubbing against the large cover,so I took
that off and the problem still exists. All spacers, felt washers, etc. put in the proper order.I cannot figure out what is
causing this problem. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Did you recently have the hub apart? edit:oh, I see you did. If you put the bearing spacer in backwards it can happen. The long end on the spacer goes into the single row bearing, kind of reverse of what one would think, but that's what keeps things from binding. Ask me how I know.

What is dragging? Is the backing plate scraping the drum? If that is the source make sure you have washer NME5276 (Item 21 in the parts diagram) This is listed as AR, so you may need more than one, but I don't recall ever seeing more than one in any I have pulled apart.
As for the speedo drive scraping, if the tophat washer is not crushed you may need to flatten drive body. I have seen many on the cush drive hub that were deformed by using a lever to push the wheel onto the brake drum paddles. Pressure on the speedo drive and not the tophat spacer or hub will deform the drive body.

Ron even with every thing properly put together it will still deform over time. just cheap pot metal junk
