So,

A few months ago I got this crazy idea to buy and restore a 1973 Commando. So far it hasn't been too bad, but not being a professional, I've run into a couple issues. I figure with all the experience out there this may be a good way to solve these little issues as they come up. So for my first question.... I'm attaching my swing arm back to the transmission/gearbox cradle. when it was time to install the swing arm pivot spindel I realized one end is flat and the other end is an inward funnel shape, I wasn't sure which side is which. Does the flat end of the spindel go to the left or right as standing behind the motorcycle? So yeah this id my question of the day, I'm sure I'll have more to come. Thanks in advance for any assistance you all can provide.

Yep, dished to the right.
It's also threaded so you can use a slide hammer to remove it.

You've got to get a shop manual and a parts list. They are available online in pdf, and they are free. The exploded view of the parts list is great in that it makes it easy to see how things go together and you get the proper names and part numbers, which makes the people who sell parts very happy..
BTW, welcome :D

Great, another Looney we can torture, you'll enjoy the process. Keep asking.

Guido hit it on the head. That way you can remove it from the right side. Primary cover is in the way on the other side...

Yes, taking it apart was so easy (lol). and I don't mind the heckling, I deserve it, but the results will be well worth it :-)

Another question I had was, how the hell do you remove the dummy axel/bearing assembly from the rear break drum. I tried to press it out from the threaded side, but it wouldn't budge.

? Must be the shaft is siezed to the bearing, becasue it should slip out.

Can you remove the snapring and then puch out the two together?

Grandpaul, you must of been right. I think it was just locked up in there. A little bit of brute force took knocked it out :-)

So next question... Does the oil line junction block (the piece with the two pipes jutting out of the back of the block) have only one little "hollow set coupling" in the bottom tube or am I missing one from the top tube? God, I'm learning the value of pre-disassembly photography (lol).

There's only one sleeve (in the block). That, and the bolt, align the manifold to the block.

Order my fork rebuild kit. Pretty self explanatory, but a little confused on which direction the oil seals go in. Is the solid side suppose to go up with the exposed side down or vice verse??
