Question about Brexit

Way more rewarding to be outside getting whatever needs doing done , ended off my work time as process operator for 3 years ,not near as much fun , only got outside to gather samples from our reservoir couple days a week
respect to all. was just making a point. well trying to. read. ergo. Craig' 2nd to last post. just an observation of the modern world. we earnt it. they waste it!

I'm going to spend every penny hopefully before I pop my clogs. My old fella started out as a farm worker earning pennies. Saved all his life and enjoyed everything with mum etc. Ended up in care and they raped his savings of £36000. Neighbours hadn't got a pot to piss in and got everything for free. I was brought up to save, but not anymore. Blow the lot ! Or send it to London via high speed train. Video conferencing means we have to go to the Capital. ???????

Money has the most purchasing power on the day that you earn it. If you buy something which is intrinsically valuable, it is an investment. I don't know what my race bike would sell for these days, but when I built it in about 1978, it cost me almost nothing. It will be the same for the young guys these days, if you are very selective about what you buy. About 10 years ago I saw a very nice Suzuki GSXR750L going fairly cheap - that is the one which has the race gearbox. The reason we old guys have some nice race bikes, is we had them when we were young, and kept them.
You get old quicker than you might think.

Voting on Brexit is interesting. Boofheads will always be popular, because many people like to vote for candidates with whom they can identify. It is the reason Pauline Hanson is popular in Queensland.

Wish all you voters in U.K. get results you are hoping for, in tomorrows voting .... remember you got to cast a vote to have the right to complain !

Don’t know what Boris was thinking, I wonder if they realise that most of the voters will be counted and declared on Friday the 13th!!!!

And there’s more. . . . . this is the first general election held in December for 100 years and history has a habit of repeating itself - the result of that one was a hung parliament with the balance of power held by the Irish - sounds familiar?

Well said, I had to put one of my yoghurt knitting hippie friends down on that. Opinions on everything and never votes, so he was told to wind his neck in and keep his trap shut. He wasn't happy when others agreed, so he shut up and went off to smoke a banana skin.

Years ago had a Rugby playing coach from Wales , used to gather in his basement .... he would complain ‘bout smell of “burning rope” .... fun times , where would we be without the odd hippie viewpoint ,eh

I have a thing about people who do not vote. A 'just war' is usually a fight for democracy. How many people have died so that we would have the right to determine our own futures ? When somebody refuses to vote, they effectively throw the personal sacrifice made by so many, back in their faces. In Australia, voting is compulsory, but we do not usually conscript for military service. I worked for many years in defence manufacturing. When you do that, you need to have your head straight about the military and their role in sustaining democracy.

Having a right to give an opinion is not predicated on participating in some other function like voting. Ideas shouldn't be judged based on WHO's mouth they come out of or whether they've jumped threw the arbitrary hoops someone else deams necessary. Ideas should be judged on their merrits alone, Period!

Should this little girl shut up because she doesn't vote?

Question about Brexit

Everyone has a right to express their opinion, regardless of what some clueless jackass on the internet says. Your choice is to dispute what they say or agree with them, NOT disqualify them from speaking on the grounds that they don't do something that YOU think should be compulsory... Have some balls and a brain. Consider other people's ideas, and critique them on their idea's merrits alone. Have the guts to agree with ideas that seem right proposed by people you don't like, and conversely disagree with ideas that seem wrong proposed by those you do like...

90% of the arguments I see online aren't fact based disagreements anyway. Most of them seem like "Tu_quoque" back and forth... or repeating some dogmatic phrase ad nauseam as if it needs no explanation. Have an idea, explain your idea, defend your idea...

Frank
Totally agree that people have a right to opinions and others have the right to dispute or disagree, the problem with the little girl you cite is that she is attempting to reduce a very complex argument to a simplistic choice of reducing cO2
The president of Brazil responded with a very unpopular reaction “I am prioritising feeding my people over climate change” (paraphrased)
As I say more complicated than it first appears and yes, the internet and social media espouse righteous indignation without examining the full evidence available- unfortunately often taken as THE truth by users of said media

Reducing cO2 is a good starting point, and it ain't political, it's science. Better it be simple. Why is everyone so hung up on hating a 16 year old? It's sad.

Yeah, it's complex, so what? Is that a reason to do nothing?

I think some misinterpet my point.... I'm not defending Greta's science, just her right to speak. If I wanted to argue either for, or against her, my first argument wouldn't be an attack on her because she hasn't voted, nor would it be that she is young and lacks a lifetime of experience of an adult to make an arguement from...

My arguement would be strictly about the claims she makes and facts that either support or dispute those claims... Even if she is totally wrong, she has a right to make her argument... Everyone has a right to their opinion.

In her case, Pete she displays at lot of anger in her public behavior... Being more angry doesn't make you more right... You are either right or not right (or somewhere inbetween in her case) I think the media loves this little girl because she publically scouled at Trump and they promote her as just another thing to reflect their own feelings of loathing. So she receives the backlash of those who don't think her anger is justified. That's what being angry does, it stirs the anger up in those you direct your anger at...

No doubt there's some justification for global climate change based on burning fossil fuel. As to whether we are screwed already, or screwed within some predicted time table, I think we can only guess where we are.

I really wanted to use this little girl as an example of someone who has not voted so the "Shut up because you didn't vote" Nazis could explain how their theory applies..

Oh no, I got your point and I agree.

if you're not angry, you're not paying attention. Not everything is about DT (despite what he might have you think).
