Did any of you UK guys see the Joy Division documentary an BBC4 last night?
Proper stuff. Always liked them myself. So much more energy and so much better than all that disco stuff of the day. Not to mention all that Prog Rock shite that far too many bikers seem into!!

What kinda pub is this...?

I call Prog Rock shite, and no one takes the bait...!

What's a guy gotta do to get a fight around here...?!?!

I like Joy Division and shite prog rock. The earlier prog rock is better and the later stuff can be tortuous boring and shite but it was the nature of the beast. You always have the off button.

Eddie,

Yes I saw it and it brought back lots of memories!
My brother still has all their early stuff on vinyl - maybe I should cadge it off him as we've now got our old deck up and running again - it'll look good next to my wife's Genesis & Barclay James Harvest collection!
It's OK though - my teen daughter gives her plenty of stick over her 'tastes', being more of a Led Zep & FLoyd fan herself - another Time Warp victim...

Curtis had already been long gone when I was frequenting the Hacienda and other Manc venues - the Poly used to be a great place for gigs too.
Saw New Order at King George's Hall in Blackburn in the mid 80s, but they were a bit too up themselves by then - best gig I saw there was Ozzy while Randy Rhodes was still alive.

Eeeh, them wer't days

Was a Joy Division fan from the start, sad they never made it to the U.S. & I'm sorry if your a fan but New Order allways sucked in comparison. Was the documentary your talking about a real dcumentary and any good? Or was it that movie about them?

It was a proper, and recent, documentary and quite good. You might be able to find it on t'internet somehow.

We had it down under a couple of months back. Great stuff, was (and always will be) a fan. Remember what I was doing when I heard Ian Curtis had passed. Such a loss, he was telling everyone what was going on in his songs, but no-one understood.

Gidday Eddie
what the hell is prog Rock?. do you call joy division rock or what.

i have heard very little of that band. but there did not seem to be much Joy in the music.
Dry as a Pommie's towel mate.
Reminded me of Nick Cave or the Velvet Underground.

i suppose you dont like AC/DC, Masters Apprentices, Buffalo, Chain, Rose Tattoo, the Angels, Lobby Loyd, and Grinspoon with their good old family favorite, " Dead Cat x 3".

Good ol proper rock from the Antipodies mate. Do yourself a favor and check out this stuff. genuine rock from the Colonys.

When i used to go to the pub on a saturday night, the intention was to indulge in the exact opposite of fighting. :D

Any way mate, what is prog rock.

Do you like just proper rock or what. i do like Budgie myself. A proper british rock band

All in good fun. God save the Queen. But not the Sex Pistols version I hope.
best wishes Bradley

prog rock is short for Progressive Rock Music whereby "Songs were replaced by musical suites that often stretched to 20 or 40 minutes in length"

Wikipedia has a good page on the topic at https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Progressive_rock

This extract perhaps summarises the genre best: "Progressive rock saw a high level of popularity throughout the 1970s, especially in the middle of the decade. Bands such as Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, the Moody Blues, Yes, King Crimson, Genesis, Camel and Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP) were the genre's most influential groups and were among the most popular acts"

Prog rock was very popular with a certain sector of youth, many of whom became the type of person who would be likely to be on this forum. Hence the tongue in cheek dig!

By the mid to late 70s, many slightly younger people became frustrated by the prog rock scene and even more so by the disco scene. New Wave and punk came out of this. Joy Division were at the forefront of the New Wave scene.

In reality of course, Joy Division are a bit 'niche'. Many describe their music as 'dark, depressing, angry' and its all of those to be honest.

Is 'NORTON COMMANDO' by 'The Ellen Jamesians' progressive rock?
It would appear to be an appropriately titled song for this forum!
However, I reckon it would sound awful played and/or sung at no. 11 inside a fullface helmet while riding (that's the criteria for my music choices). :D
