Long shot here - Does anyone know at what point (in degrees of rotation relative to TDC or BDC) do the oil holes in the rods line up with the oil holes in the journals ? I have an oil syringe and meant to prime the crank before installation of the rods but I got ahead of myself . The bottom end is all back together now with cylinders installed. Will the oil fill the journals/sludge trap regardless or will they be air bound without the holes lining up ?

Use a (CLEANED!!)
pump oiler (or syringe) on the end of crank. Bearing holes do not need to align. The air will push out of the bearing clearance. I did it last spring, took a couple oz. of oil.
BDC position will help, gravity will (reduce) flowing back out the end.

The holes in the big end journal are at 90 and 270 but the angle they line up with the hole in the rod is another angle. Its academic as the clearance in the shell bearing means oil flows at all angles.

I would think you wouldn't want the holes to align as you want to both fill the bearing to crank space and have the most restriction to fill the crank cavity.

I think you are over thinking this a bit
Just prime the crank prime the pump ,a squirt of oil in the valve covers to give the cam a chance
Then fire it up
Don't forget if you have changed the cam/followers they like a lot of revs don't let it idle

Thanks Gents - long way from lighting it up but ready for timing cover and ignition timing then head . I could plot the hole coincidence but since most believe the oil will get around the big ends under syringe pressure alone it isn’t necessary - I wasn’t certain but you’ve given me the answer I was hoping for.
Thanks everyone - RT
