anyone using anything besides stock, service replacement o-ring? has anyone used a "square" stock, "X" cross section, or foam stock. thought I saw something about someone using 6mm foam type material. I was using 5mm silicone on my pre-alton case, but since installing the starter upgrade, and using the same 5mm material, it doesn't seem to be sealing quite as good as before. i'm back at square one....

I have the Alton system and, using the stock O-ring with a smear of Permatex Moto-seal on it has done a good job keeping it leak free. Yes, a $1000 belt drive and several hours of labor would stop the leak but so will a 10 dollar tube of Moto-seal and 10 minutes of your time. :)

I recently fitted a primary seal from AN. Rubber was soft, it was glued together at the ends. Size was perfect and it stayed put in the inner case groove. Why mess around when the ‘original’ is still available?
Unless Alton aren’t making the groove correctly?

"Unless Alton aren’t making the groove correctly?"

The Allton starter uses the OEM (grooved) Norton outer chaincase so if the original groove was OK, it still is...or not. In my case I used motoseal on the OEM setup to stop leaks - just kept doing it with the Alton.
