Well, I don't know about the whole lap top thing. Didn't buy a vintage bike to turn it into a high tech monster. I do however like not having points. Especially two. The thing that attracts me to this system is the optical sensor(I've had good luck with the unilites) and the two curve programming that will allow me to go from mild to wild at the flip of a switch. Econ for put-put around town and performance for having some fun squashing my buddies on their triumphs n harleys. :p

there may not big as big of a difference as you might think if your motor is stock - maybe a little, but your not going to go from lastest to fastest

i have a similar adjustable unit on my triple laverda, it has 10 advance curves, and before i added better cams and an exhaust the overall effect was minimal ....

it still looks like a nice unit though and i'll be curious for your impression on it

Thanks for posting the four ignition curves. I do not have an engine on my dyno at this time, but the next time I do, I will try all four curves against mine and post the results on our site. If you have a curve that you can not live without and do not want to purchase the programable ignition, I will map the curve for you. Since it is only Ella and I, do not expect next day turn around on custom curves, but we will do our best.

how many people really need the cable if it comes programmed with a proven map for street use? Besides, you would need a dyno to utilize the cable and most don't have access or really ever use a dyno.

You should all realize that to set programs and curves that an additional $125.00 will be needed for the Program Link Cable although the program (software) is free.

On their website if you buy from them

Power Arc IDS CP-2
Buy Now
Buy now and receive a free PLC cable.
I think that is the Harley unit for $472.
The CP-1 is for Triumph/Norton without the cable for $285.

What was the effect after the mods, Mike?

Unless a weird highly modified engine like Ms Peel, I've go with what Fred has programed w/o further thought of altering or acquiring 'puter to diddle it.

I'm going bonkers on Ms Peel, but keeping the faith pure on Trixie Combat with points plus a spare advance mechanism that's good as new. If I need to go EI on Trixie, Old Brit's Fred is who I'm gonna call. Fred has a dyno and metering and range of engines experience to guide him for gosh sakes. A bargain vendor plus priceless advice. Saving up now to throw next big chunk of Peel money at Fred.
Powerarc's main market is with hot rod cars and Harley crowd not small cheap Brit Iron market, so few with vintage cycle have heard of Powerarc > so far.

Bike ran strong before with impeded spark on one cyl due to plug wire not fully connected to coil. New system should be improvement if for no other reason than it being new components and will be installed correctly. Didn't catch the faulty connection because the bike ran when purchased and had no reason to check plug wires until component failure. Lesson learned. Will be installing tympanum upgrade at same time, so hopefully will be charging at or around 13v. Increase in voltage should increase performance as well. Even if only one hp that's 2%. Like previos posts state not interested in plugging in and re mapping. Fred has done the work on that end. Just looking for reliable plug and play ign system. The dual switchable curves is a bonus. Whether ill keep it switchable or hard wire one or the other will be determined after a few weeks "trail" time. I am just as curious as all, if not more because im $350 deep in it. My ups delivery says thursday so by this time next week I hope to have some time on the setup. Im sure you all will be waiting on pins and needles...

I hope Powerarc is different but one thing I've learned and backed by too many others, any new item, especially electrical is Always to be suspect right out the box or soon after. It takes about 10% performance difference for most to detect it w/o meters.

10% would be awesome, but I doubt that'll happen with just an ign upgrade. What I hope to notice is smooth idle, acceleration, and hopefully a few more mpg. Im not building a track bike, just a smoother more reliable one. As far as new tech goes, this isn't . Been working on HDs for 20 years, why wouldn't it work on a norton? Optical is old tech. The microprocessor bits aren't new either. Working around big generators and power equipment, I see them operate under harsh and demanding conditions. Sure there are bad batches, as seen recently with other systems. No reason to throw out the baby with the bath water. Im sure if I have issues they will be adressed with the excellent reputation for service that old britts has taken years to aquire. That said, I can't wait till the ups man comes so I can slap that $#!7 on and see how it goes!

Its so sweet just to get a motor optimized state of tune. so even if not a bump in performance the delivery is more satisfying. I suspect you will feel more crisp response with less twist and likely more pull too. 10% would be like 4.5 hp and too much to expect but 5% 2.25 hp could be, and sensed if you could switch between old ignition and Powerarc on the fly : )

Yeah, but we all know it's Ella who does all the work. :p

Good to see you here.

If it works well for you It'll be my next mod so Im watching closely
Dont forget to take pics :)

I am up for one of these as well being it is cheaper than the expensive questionable option and I feel support from old britts is superior to none

it really depended upon which curve you use, and with 10 different ones i had a lot of choices but ultimately i settled upon a curve where mid to high range acceleration was very impressive, i had found stock my triple was lackluster until it hit about 5 k and then really hit its power band - now from from 3 K onwards the acceleration is quite impressive and it doesn't seem to run out of lungs at higher rpms ( 7.5K or so previously)
