Quite right.TBH I don't own a TV, so am spared the media overkill that usually surrounds these events when we revert to the primary school mentality of chasing a bit of leather (as was) or running round in circles and jumping up and down.
That said, I don't mind watching a good game of football, and can appreciate the skills involved, but I won't live or die by the results.
Bottom line is it is sadly no longer solely twenty two men kicking a ball around, the politics off the field are taking over every time one of these buffoons gets stuck in front of a microphone.
Money HAS spoiled the 'game', IMHO....
For years the argument was that sport should rise above politics, and it usually succeeded.
Now it’s done a total 180 and sport is used as a platform for politics. Usually, anti establishment politics.
I’m really not sure when / how / why that U-turn came about.
To the best of my knowledge, sporting prowess, or even a formal sports eduction, does not provide for a qualified view on politics…
