As per Flatspot's post apparently the football (the round thing the idiots paid a million pounds a week kick about )
did or did not go over the line according to VAR

and the goal by Japan that knocked Germany out of the World Cup is being disputed.

JEEEEZZZZZ .... amazed there are people who know less about football than me.

Wife is pissed there were no soaps on TV tonight due to football.

And even I prefer to watch 10 episodes of Coronation Street to one football match

TBH I don't own a TV, so am spared the media overkill that usually surrounds these events when we revert to the primary school mentality of chasing a bit of leather (as was) or running round in circles and jumping up and down.
That said, I don't mind watching a good game of football, and can appreciate the skills involved, but I won't live or die by the results.
Bottom line is it is sadly no longer solely twenty two men kicking a ball around, the politics off the field are taking over every time one of these buffoons gets stuck in front of a microphone.
Money HAS spoiled the 'game', IMHO....

Quite right.

For years the argument was that sport should rise above politics, and it usually succeeded.

Now it’s done a total 180 and sport is used as a platform for politics. Usually, anti establishment politics.

I’m really not sure when / how / why that U-turn came about.

To the best of my knowledge, sporting prowess, or even a formal sports eduction, does not provide for a qualified view on politics…
