I keep reading in the forum about Piston slap. Is this sound noticeble at idle, higher rpms , or all the time? Sometimes after startup for the first 1 or 2 minutes of running the motor can seem a little noisy. It seems to quiet down after a few, and when I`m riding the motor sounds fine.It pulls like a beast and I have great compression- 11,200 orig miles on a 71 roadster. Is this just noise until oil pressure builds?

Thanks again,
Mike

As heat expands the rings and pistons the slap will go away. Not considered to be a make or brake thing on engines just a bit annoying.

Mike,
Pinking or pinging can be mistaken as piston slap. If the noise greatly bothers you try retarding the ignition a couple of degrees.

Or if your are on points fit EI which has a milder advance curve and takes untill 5K not 3K before being fully advanced.
