Need to pick some minds on Pickling the raw steel inside frame oil tank.
Need something to chemically react then drain out.
At this point only Phosphoric acid or gun bluing comes to mind.

If phos acid used, would that need a baking soda flush?
I'm a bit peevish on acetone or alcohol to help dry out
water content d/t corrosive action, but don't yet know
if that's much an issue on not.
Plenty sun shine this season to let her cook out in lawn.

Why not use CLR? or as previously mentionned in a gas tank thread, regular household vinegar?

Whatever you use a Phosphoric acid based product is best. No rinsing should be needed just a wash with some non-detergent oil. Think of the acid as plating as long as the wet spots are displaced by the oil later. Your pre rusting in a controlled way with the acid and with no coating needed afterwards the need to rinse and dry is gone. Do some thinking about the ideal strength and the time needed to get this just right.

The Vinegar works great!

What about parkerizing?

Ok thanks guys. I'm familiar with strong phos acid in both peoples metabolic
therapy and to stabilize metal surface for painting. CLR is what I use
in gas tanks and Devil's lye from childhood boats rusting cheap tanks.
But gas and oil tanks can be re dried and even sealed with goops.
But i've got only one chance to preserve frame interior before oil
inside prevents good contact later.
I know better than trusting engine oil to protect raw metal.
I've seen stuff stored in buckets of oil and bottom of oil pans,
the moisture is heavier and collects in puddle in bucket or
lifts oil off metal to oxidize till flaking off rust bunnies.

This forum is 3rd recommendation of the Picklex20. One other
from another bike list and from painter private contact.
Will get some soon then balance and hang frame to get the
stuff to react everywhere. I ask if extra ingredients
the make it better than plain old phos acid - the zing-sting
stuff of soda drinks.
