Now we have titanium engine internals and 6-speed boxes the 'traditional' Manx classes are faster than ever, but I wonder if these gearboxes would take the power of a decent short-stroke commando engine?
It would certainly be fun trying to find out!

Simple answer is yes they would and without an outrigger.....

Decent short stroke Commando engine will not make the power of a 93mm long stroke 1007, and the boxes survive that...mostly...

I differ with Pommie John only in that the gearing should be set to allow you to achieve maximum power rpm, which allows run on to max rpm...

Which means tune you motor to make max power lower than max rpm.....give you a bit of leeway before it goes bang, or hits the limiter, which is not pleasant really...I have ridden GSXRs to hit the limiter before changing up through the gears....it's not very sympathetic....I don't want to do that with a Commando engine....
