Peripherial Neuropathy

I have it. According to my doc, it's not curable, due to nerve damage. My feet feel cold even when they aren't, to the touch. My toes and the areas between them are increasingly numb. My hand motor skills are not nearly as fine as they used to be. Fortunately is hasn't affected motorcycle riding, at least not as much as my thumbs. Anchovy procedure on the left hand was successful and now I need the right done. Next winter.

As far as you can avoid them, don't let the medical establishment "practice" on you.

I worked in Pulmonary Medicine for 9 years. My boss, an eminent world famous pulmonologist, was fond of saying .... "patients get better in spite of what some guys do to them!"

My dad the retired Head of Internal Medicine said of my exploded collarbone, "it will heal fine as long as all the pieces are in the same room".

Well, it's been about 2-3 weeks now and if there's any difference, it's minimal. I actually think the bones in my feet hurt more. The nerve issues seem a 'bit' better. I may try taking 3 a day now, I don't seem to have any side issues other than my dreams have changed somewhat, but not bad or strange dreams.

I did buy some Sunoco 112LL (they didn't have any 110LL) last week to fill up the fiberglass tank. We'll see if I can find a day that I feel good enough for a ride. 'Friend' of my wife's came to Easter dinner with other friends, all vaccinated, and now we all have sore, froggy throats, my sore throat is mostly gone but now it's in my nose, sudafed helps some but it's hard to sleep. I may start calling her typhoid Mary, the 'friend' said she was feeling bad before the dinner. Thanks a lot.

Off to watch 'All Creatures', I think the old version. Our local PSS digi station has a UK/BBC channel we watch a lot OTA.

That's basically what I was told when I broke the left one. When the right one got smashed and punched, I knew surgery would be necessary. Ortho doc said more and more they are repairing broken collarbones for better outcomes and quicker healing.

My wife fell in an open storm drain in Florida about 5 years ago. Fell about 10-15' on one foot. Of course it shattered her ankle and foot bones. Long story short, trauma center in FL put it together as good as possible, 2 years later after being in a wheelchair and walker, got an ankle replacement. It works, she can walk, but not without some daily pain. They can do near miracles, but not magic. She got $700 for her troubles. Luckily I have Federal Health care/medicare and they paid everything. I saw the bills, hundreds of thousands, of course 90% of that was discounted.
Never go walking in the dark without a flashlight. She was lucky not to be eaten by an alligator.
Count your blessings, me too.

How doth the little crocodile
Improve his shining tail
And pour the waters of the Nile
On every golden scale!

How cheerfully he seems to grin
How neatly spreads his claws,
And welcomes little fishes in
With gently smiling jaws!

Sometimes a medical masseuse can work wonders.

I suffered from a pain in my wrist for about 5 months. Was told it was everything from bursitis to gout to hairline bone fracture to maligned cervical disc.

Two one hour sessions with a medical masseuse and it was gone.

I now see the guy every other week just to maintain wellness.

Bloke went to the doctor suffering the same symptoms, couldn't get a diagnosis.
One morning, afer a heavy dream in bed about a beautiful woman, he had a wa*k , his wrist started to heal itself as long as he repeated this procedure every morning. . . . . - sorry, I just couldn't resist! :)

I've been thinking about that but my wrist is sore...... Oh, I get it.

I think attitude does more than the docs.

One thing about that Gabapentin, be careful with that. I got a prescription for that when I blew a disc in my neck a few years ago. I started taking that and it helped a little, since I was not happy taking 6 Advil a day (it will ruin your kidneys) so I was on it for a few weeks. Then it started to not work so well, so I just stopped taking it. Now I know what withdrawal is like. It was awful. And when they have those disclaimers about "suicidal thoughts" on the drug ads... apparently that is real too, it was nasty. I flushed what I had left down the toilet and vowed to never take it again....

Try Benfotiamine, which is a form of vitamin B. Specifically vitamin B – 1. It is not commonly sold at your typical vitamin outlets, in my experience. I order it online from Piping Rock.

That’s a good thing. It’s easy for them to heal slightly misaligned, the shoulder area is a complicated area and a mild misalignment can cause issues with tendons etc. Well, it did with me !

Thanks for the info. I did read about not quitting the stuff cold turkey, not a good idea. So far I'm just taking 2/day, but I think they do make me feel strange, I think. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's the age or the drugs. I see my GP this coming Wednesday, I'll talk to him about it. Can't say it's gotten rid of any pain, it just feels different.

Meantime, my wife's friend gave us all a horrible bug, sore throat, stuffy running nose for Easter dinner. Of the 5 people there, only my wife didn't get it. I'm about over it, but I still have crap coming out my nose, not much just enough to make me feel it in my sinuses.

Sorry for your bug infection. Due to the big lockdown and shielding I've not been near anyone without a face mask, I've had no winter flu at all. I don't go into other people's homes anymore and don't invite anyone into mine, yep, I've become a right miserable old sod, ain't old age wonderful!

Well, all the people at Easter had their 2 vaccines a month ago so I wasn't too worried. For sure I don't go places I don't feel safe. Wife calls me a recluse anyhow. I did get tested but it was negative. I decided to stop taking the Gab last night I felt so shitty. Called the pharmacist and they said after just 2 weeks, I can just quit. I already feel better. Not sure it did anything anyhow. Same thing as before when I tried it. Maybe I should try acupuncture.

The accu. puncture worked for me a few yrs ago , lower back , maybe 6 visits , has not returned ....

I'm not much of an 'alternative' medicine guy, but I have a pair of married acquaintances, one is a vet (not a veteran, I'm that much), and the other is a scientist with NASA, solar type, and the vet had positive things to say about acupuncture, especially with horses and herself. I may have to talk to her about it.

I have to say at least I have a smile on my face this evening after the last few weeks of crap. I actually got something done today, put the sickle bar mower on the tractor to mow some banks. Grass is starting to grow here.

Then I had a glass of Jamesons and some ice cream to go with it.

Had a chat with the GP today. He agreed that the Gab was not doing much, said it should start working after a few days if it's going to work and the way it made me feel certainly wasn't worth it. Asked him why I rarely run into others with this issue, and he went over all my neurological issues. C3-C4 fusion back in 03 from car accident, left me with nerve damage in the neck and arms. Sometime around maybe 07 herniated disk resulting in another fusion L4-5. Drop foot later and more L5-S1 spinal stenosis, in other words, I need a new back bone. Not gonna happen. He suggested trying to get by with basic pain management Tylenol, ibproprin, etc. So it looks like I just need to live with this crap. Good thing is once I sit down I can basically just ignore it, it's not painful, it's just a complete aggravation when I need to stand up and work. As I said walking I can tolerate about as well as sitting. And it's probably good for me to keep it moving. I think that's about the end of the story. Back to our regularly sponsored program.

What is the issue with using medicinal l cannabis? It is a very effective pain killer and unlike most heavy duty drugs takae for such purposes ,is not going to wreak havoc with the rest of your body organs. I would also investigate japanese shiatsu exercises.

I wouldn't mind trying some cannabis, I'm sure my GP would not agree, I do live in Virginia, as it is. Although the state legislature has rolled over to more progressive lately. We'll see if it continues. I did try some 'pressure point' therapy a few years ago, but got nothing from it. I probably wasn't expecting much.

My feet and legs were pretty bad this morning, but I just pressed through it, I did get about 4 things done around the place, fixing the sickle bar mower on the JD2020 and some yard mowing, plus finished up cooking some onions for soup, all before I had a few spoons of ice cream with a hit of Jamesons. That seems to do about as good as anything, but I'm sure the docs wouldn't agree. I did try some 'Aleve' this morning, it did nothing. I actually think Tylenol works better. Asprin works better than anything, but it gives me ulcers. In general I don't care for pills much.
