Ugh, no I do not think or find the cushions are very important in Commandos, more a wishful thinking afterthought - in the right direction by Norton. BUT YES, YES affirmative by me - cush hubs are good idea but But BuTT... as rarely as cushions get inspected many have been run til significant slack for drive train snatch or even metal/metal shock contacting, yet we don't hear of routinely busted drive trains as often as the cushions dissolve. I'll never buy another stock set as had them turn to waded up chewing gum and dust on a single good behavior test ride and a flat or worn tire to change and shocked-pissed off, so ever since I only use tough rubber fiber enforced side wall sections. Two for driven loads one for the weaker brake loads.

Thanks Hobot, you started well there and then went Hobottish towards the end! Sorry for bad typing - 'rubbers' not 'dubbed'....

Well I guess mine are past it and I hope this explains the clunkng particularly in the lower gears. I put the back brake on and I could rotate the wheel about half to the quarters of an inch..
