P11 Norton Daily rider

If I could buy that exhaust system shown in the P11A pic p400 posted, I'd buy it today. I would have bought it in the 1970's, but it wasn't available then either.

Direct link if you know where to get it. Searching the web has never produced a hit for that exhaust system in 47 years. Looking for love in all the wrong places apparently.

Nobody is making a good reproduction of the P11 high pipes at the moment, everyone complains that they don’t fit right. Spoiler alert, we’re working on it! Stay tuned.

Good to know. I was talking about the pseudo Commando style downpipes in post #30 and #48. What I'd prefer is a custom built pipe similar to, but not the same as the exhaust used on a few of the JPN race bikes that goes under the motor and exits with both silencers stacked on the right side sitting on the bike. While fantasizing, I'd also want full access to the sump plug. The 2 into 1 exhaust I'm using now covers half of it.

I'm currently trying to decide if I should put my money where my mouth is and get the set EstuaryBoy was so kind as to provide a link to. I probably should. I know my neighbors would appreciate it this summer.

Check out the fuel line. It's a work in progress

Brake stay and plate is reversed (opposite side) too.

That speedo cable reminds me of a story. I rode my P11 around for 20 years without a speedo or tach. Still don't have a tach. When I put a speedo on it, it was all guess work. Kind of critical doing it right. Well, I did not. I took it out for a spin after getting it all hooked up, and somewhere during that ride my rear wheel locked up at about 50 MPH. Fortunately I was in a straight section of road. The old P11 held its line perfectly with the rear wheel locked up. Pulled off the road and the speedo gear was turned darn near backwards and ruined. It is what locked up the rear wheel. I can't remember what I did wrong exactly, but I did figure out it needed to be shimmed(?) perfectly, or it'll kill ya.

That was about life 6 used up. I have 1 left.

Well held! I had a very stupid one in my early 20s when I set off at speed across a large empty car park on my ZXR750, forgetting to remove my front disc lock! It’s amazing how far I got before coming ungracefully to rest! Rode home with the LH footrest and half a bracket in my jacket pocket with left foot blowing in the wind! I’m not a big fan of accidents but do prefer them if they’re not my own bloody stupid fault!!

On the subject of exhausts, mine must be remakes but not sure where from. The ‘silencers’ are straight through so make little difference. I can live with it for the miles I do though. The thing is one of the best sounding bikes I’ve ever heard! It’s got that bassy Norton bark, meatier than a 650 Triumph with a nice accompanying whistle, not unlike a Gold Star. Just the noise makes me grin like a kid!
I’d does help that I live in the country though!

Those are standard P11A and Ranger exhausts, they are available new. I just put a set on my Ranger project. The fit is pretty good, just needed a minor tweak.

That speedo cable is just asking for trouble !!
Wonder why some have vertical tacho take off, and some angled?
The angle tach drive is so the cable misses the high pipes of the original P11, straight up was fitted to P11A’s and Rangers, same set up as the Atlas, and early Commando.
