My lovely 1967 P11 has to go. I have a knee injury and now struggle starting any bike with a kick start. In order to keep riding I have decided to get an early Commando and fit a CNW electric start to it. So if you have a drum brake model roadster or S type that you would like to part Ex against my P11 let me know and I will send details. I have placed an Advert on the NOC site. By the way the bike is in Cornwall UK.
I will be sorry to say goodbye I love the P11.

Piero,
The P11 primary is shorter than the Commando. There isn't room to fit the Commando one in the Matchless frame. (That is why the transmission is tilted to fit closer to the engine).

Have a chat with Steve Maney. In 2014 he started work on an e-start for his P11. Maybe he completed a solution which he may want to offer to others. Please let us know if you have any luck.

Hi Ron,
if you retain the stock inner chaincase and modify the outer chaincase why you cannot fit the commando triplex chain (shorter) system?.
Of course you need to change the gearbox mainshaft.

Piero,
The distance between the crankshaft and gearbox mainshaft for the P11 is shorter than for the Commando. Therefore if you use either the Alton or CNW inner primary chaincase for their e-start kits, it will not fit over the shafts unless you somehow take a section out to make it shorter (and a complementary section from the outer chaincase).

It would be interesting to see what Steve Maney is developing!

Hi Ron,
i completely agree with you.
But i think that a good machnist could invent something about.

I have heard back from Steve Maney. As yet he has not yet got round to looking at an Electric start for P11 and he is not sure as to when he will. Clearly a busy man and not a priority. As to the kits for Commando I would be in favour of the CNW rather than Alton.

I am not surprised. Actually I am working on an e-start kit for the singles and the twins, but don't hold your breath.
See recent thread on the subject [in the AJS/M section].
