Is the outer primary cover from a 69 70 model the cone shaped one compatible with a 71 to 74 model? If so does it use the same timing plate which is installed by two Hammer screws. Does it clear the footrest mount on a 71 to 74 model? Thanks for your input.

Yes, the cone primary will work on the 71-74 models. They should clear the footrest mount, but since the '68-'69 footpeg studs are welded into the footrest mount while the 71-74 are screwed in with a locknut, you may need to trim the footpeg stud and use a thinner locknut or eliminate the lock nut and use some blue loctite.

Thank you Ron, I always like the look of them things.

Hard to find a good used one that is not punched. At one point they were no longer available new. Not sure if that has changed.

No one that I know of. I believe it was only a couple model years maybe 69 and 70. Lab would know. So anything you find would be used.

According to the '68 - '70 parts list the outer chaincase changed after serial 131257.

Norvil lists 060370 so it's possible they have them at £308.

It looks like the early cover uses a different timing plate 060662.

Thank you oh great one!

Andover also lists the part number for the "old" cover, but the link takes you to the "new" cover.
Yes Stephen, it appears like the only folks who might have one are Norvil, according to LAB. I scored the one in the picture on Ebay. It was less than half of what Norvil wanted. To me it was just on the list of oddities that I have for my Norton. Like a Drouin, 16" rear wheel, 21" front wheel , multiple fuel tanks, etc..
