Oops. Quick fix. Will gaffer tape work

Its back. I am now happy with the result. The specialist could not understand what the frame had fractured in that way. I did ask him if he wanted to to provide his details on the forum in case anyone else need this or other welding doing. He politely declined as he has too much work. He builds frames for specials ie Seeley frames. Old School and very reasonable and I am keeping him in my phone book in case. I may not have the time before Sunday's meeting to rattle can it temporarily.
Phosphor bronze welded looks like. That's what I would have had done. Good for you !

Had to work most of the day. Have to sometime as it’s what allows me to buy the toys. Finished about 4pm. Now I could have spent the rest of the afternoon painting the bike. Instead I grabbed an overnight bag and headed for Welford. Looking for a hotel now.

Top man !

What you are seeing there, is where some 90-day wonder snoflaik "engineer" has chosen to use inexpensive fish-mouth stubs FRICTION welded onto tubes after bending and trimming to length. To save money. Because doing it RIGHT is: A) hard to find people with skills for peanuts pay, and B) greed dictates taking cost out.
45 years in the metal trade speaking to you. Sorry to deliver bad news. The corporate greed is inescapable.

That repair does not look all that great to me though it may be adequate. I admit I'm a bit more chicken-hearted than I was in my younger days and I would be looking for a replacement frame if such a thing is available. Old Britts had some but, of course, OB is gone now...:(

Absent a replacement frame or better weld work as mentioned by Concours, I'd relegate the bike to light-duty work. BUT, as I said, that's just me. As we often say - do what you are comfortable with!

Not that I know of - standard Commando frames. Is the cracked frame bike a 961? I didn't realize that, sorry.

Well. 4 day weekend in the UK. So a quick clean I thought and then out. This has changed my mind. Words at this point fail me as it would just be a succession of swearing.
This is a Domi frame.
It’s hard to tell, but to many factors could be the cause of this Domi frame crack.
Tube quality
Temperature during welding
Scoring from the cutting during fabrication
Vibration
Poor bend radius, not having the correct bend radius and being stressed during assembly.
Etc.

What Commando frames have others seen with cracks ?

What type of material was used on the 961 frames?

Who manufactured the frames? In house or specific frame builder during the SG era?

I’m curious as to why TVS makes a claim of a frame revision, on something I don’t recall hearing about on a Commando 961 from a forum member here or on other 961 forums.
