Oil tanks Q

Abolutely. This is a dry sump system. This is generally a high performance system in Nascar and others racing applications. The only exception is when someone converts the frame to act as an oil tank but still a dry sump system. Google "dry sump system".

I think JD is asking if the '71-on oil tanks are interchangeable, as the part number changed for '72, '74 and '75. I know the 06-3456 850 Mk3 oil tank has no chain oiler connection and that is now the only tank listed by AN for all 71-on models which seems to suggest the tanks are interchangeable.

Opps, duh, Never mind then.

I was thinking along the lines of interchangeability. I have a cracked tank and CNW's service is a 4 week turnaround which is a bit outside my window of need. So I'll be locating a good used one for the time being and just needed to know which m.y. tanks I could use

Thanks guys

JD

Ok cool, interchangable from '71 on. Its pretty easy-straight forward to beef oil tank bottom support up on your own, then the next weak points are the tank top braces. I used a big ass oil ring under tank that surrounds the bolt boss that fractures. I had to eliminate the rear iso rubber and fab my own in order to get front mount in well and still be pretty solid on the ring semi-crush. I rough ride a lot and tank didn't clank nor flex strain its mounts any more. If ya don't find what ya like I've an excess '72 oil tank I put a temp sender boss in the front lower part and adapted a 90' elbow in place of drain plug to both watch the level and to drain w/o tools or mess. Its clean inside of sludge.

I had a local blacksmith repair a cracked top brace and a hairline crack at the base mount. Holding up nicely so far. The tanks seem to be fairly robust.
