did the Harley oil tank mounts bolt right up or did you have to open up the frame mounting hole or any other mods need noting? Did you leave the bottom mount in tact.

Marshal, I don't recall changing anything. It was the same size thread, but just a more robust mount. I didn't have any need to change the bottom mount, so I left it alone.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF MY 1970 750 COMMANDO OIL TANK( SQUARE TYPE )HAS ANY TYPE OF SPACER OR RUBBER MOUNTS AS MY BASKET CASE IS DEFINETLY MISSING SOMETHING & WONT FIT PROPERLY TO THE BATTERY CRADLE OR FRAME

I use Harley shovel head oil tank rubber mounts. They are larger than the Norton tank mounts but smaller than the muffler mounts and have 1/4-20 studs.

+1 on the Harley mounts. They work great and mine are spring reinforced. All I had to do was bend the tabs slightly since the mounts are a little longer.

There are several versions of 750 oil tanks and battery trays. As its a basket case, you just may have the wrong oil tank for the frame (or vice versa) Do you have a parts manual? If not send post some pix of the tank and frame so we can see what might wrong.

My 2 cents is to just send your tank to CNW and have the modification done! I had mine done and it was worth every penny knowing the base stress cracks are not an issue and the mounts Matt sent me were much bigger than the originals! Not to forget how beautiful the tank was after being powder coated, Matt warned me I would not want to put the tank on the bike when I got it back. He was right but I put it on anyway!!!
