Oil Tank Mount Broke

Tab was welded back on and a reinforcement added. When this breaks it’s going to CNW. But for now I should be fine.

don't want to go off-topic, but i'm fitting my oil tank before repaint. I read on the forum about (oil tank) iso mount failure, and a suggested replacement (H-D part number, 62563-65). when I removed my tank, the front mounting tab was bent, and a forward iso mount failure, anyway, bought a couple, and they seem to fit without issue, even though they are noticeably larger. do not seem to be causing any mounting problem. hate to use those "foreign" parts ( :) ) on my 74, but it looks like a definite improvement. it looks like they raise the tank about 1/8", but looking into some sort of bottom mounting pad for more support like others have suggested.

edit: thinking about this for a bottom mounting pad - https://www.mcmaster.com/4056k42
my thought is to cut a mounting pad to size, cut a clearance hole for the factory boss/grommet/sleeve and keeping the mounting screw for tank positioning purposes (minimal torque). probably need some sort of thread locker on the mounting bolt. the pad is oil resistant and medium hardness and should support the weight of the tank without issue. this may not mean much, but i'm thinking, torque from the bottom up - snug up the bottom bolt, and let the upper mounts seek their nominal positions (may need to slot the rear bracket hole and adjust the front bracket) - torque the rear, then the front. I guess the main thing is to support and secure the tank without putting undo stress on anything, especially the rear bracket. thoughts, comments, ???

I used the bigger rubber mounts. Still cracked the tab. I’m going back to the smaller ones, I think.

I shot a bunch of video showing my bottom pad but then the broken tab didn’t work out the way I hoped.

I think that pad you have should work. If you don’t like it I’ll send you a piece of my silicone pad to use.

I would not use anything on the bottom except the pad.

I did the same and it still broke. Though your welds are a bit cleaner than mine.
Just installed the CnW modified version. Hopefully this'll be the last time I have to deal with the dam thing.

The guy who welded it had a real hard time getting a spark. I thought I was going to have trouble. Since he was doing it for free I didn’t complain and he eventually got it sorted.

He insisted on the reinforcement but I knew that would only delay the visit to @cNw

I use Linatex rubber sheet between the filler neck and the frame to locate the oil tank in position in addition to the 3 standard mounts and rubber sheet at the base and back of the tank. I found that it stopped breakages of the mounts.
