I'm thinking of relocating the drain plug location to actually be in the BOTTOM of the tank, and drain away sludge regularly with oil changes. Anyone else done this? I hate the idea of leaving a layer of sludge lurking in the tank. I have an idea of where, but if anyone has done it, I'd be glad to see those ideas.

Now that beats the snot out of a wet sump gizmos ideas. There will be no way to access anything under re- mounted tank so give some thought to a clear tube routed up above oil level for a sight tube then let down drains into a jug. Use an air porous slip in plug in the end. No guessing no tool no messing no attendance oil drain. Best wishes on tank bottom fitting and tube access and securing. Sounds like a job for cold welding goop to me. Oh yeah try not visualizing a temp sender bung placement too.

I'm thinkin a 1/8-NPT steel half coupling TIG'ed on at the rear corner. The sight tube sounds very functional.

I didn't have welder nor desire to remove tank so put 90' in drain plug and routed tube up the back of cover then up besides tank. I found a glue cap or such that came to a fine point applicator tip I shoved in to keep bugs out. You botton sludge drain location is better for a real builder. You will love the sight tube & can also monitor color change with age at a glance, so easy you'll feel somewhat guilty not handling your Cdo so much to maintain it.
