I'm installing new oil seals on the new inlet valves/valve guides but the old ones are still in good shape. Is there any point (or danger) in putting the old ones on the exhaust valves as well? There's no groove or flange for them to latch on to and I think the exhaust valves get considerably hotter so the rubber may well just burn off.

Ay thought here would be appreciated.

I would not advise it.

Without the grooves the factory seals will not stay in place.
Anything but a Teflon seal will fail from the heat on the exhaust.
If it did seal it would shorten the valve guide life -there is little vacuum present to pull oil into the guide.

Roger that. Will proceed without seals on exhaust side. After the complete replacement of valves, valve guides and rings, I thinking the excessive oil burn issue may have been a simple matter of re-torquing the head bolts. At least compression will be improved (and harder to kick over).

Looking forward to spring to test out the theory and start riding again.
