Slick, if I do get around to producing this , it will have a 5/16" hole and correct banjo bolt for our Nortons

How would you be turning up to the Banbury Run with a digital oil pressure gauge fitted to your 1916 Triumph ?

We diverge Alan, but 1916 Triumphs didn't have oil pressure !
They had splash feed, like most bikes did - until the late 1920s mostly at least.
Poor choice of example.

And if we are going to exclude all new technology, we'd all be flying around with feathers bonded on with wax,
and running hay motors with exactly one horsepower. ?

Back to regular programming....

There must be a difference in head between the oil tank and the motor which would give a pressure differential ? I've always wanted one of those little brass hand pumps to play with.

Probably near exactly the same head as supplies oil to a Commando pump..... (or a bit shorter really).
Letsee, 2 ft of oil in a column.
Can you get oil pressure gauges calibrated in ounces of pressure ?

Still we diverge.

One of the members here suggested to me that this may be a good item ,
A small oil pressure switch/sensor, I imagine taken off the rocker oil feed banjo at the crankcase with 2 wires running up to one of the
headlight indicator bulbs. All it would do is tell you that you have oil pressure , so its over to you for discussion.
Do you think that is a good place to tap from?
Do you think there is any real advantage , as its unlikely that a lack of oil supply would happen.
But I guess just seeing that little light come on at start up would be nice
your thoughts
Don

I had an oil pressure gauge connected to a piece of standard rocker feed line off a banjo with an extra-long banjo bolt, no wiring required. Got tired of looking at it as it never showed any dangerously low pressure readings, so I got rid of it during one of the past re-dos. Oil pressure always pegged around 45-50 psi when cold and 15-20 psi when hot.

something like this we had in mind, of course with the appropriate banjo bolt

I like this also, just enough parts, and function, great!

I've been called an idiot at least twice on the Triumph forum, maybe that's why I like idiot lights.
I have one of those SparkBright voltage monitors mounted. When the Li battery melted 1500 miles from home, the flashing red monitor light got my attention immediately. I was able to find a Napa and get what was needed to continue on.
I doubt that I would not have noticed the ammeter showing discharge until it was too late.

The low pressure/no pressure idiot light gets my vote.

+1

I got rid of the ammeter I had on when I tore it down in favor of a VM, and I would install this OPS in favor of guage, no sweat.

just a quick update, they wont be like the design pictured. To keep the cost down I'm utilizing banjos and dowty seals that I already have a large stock
of from my brake kits. I'm making the longer banjo bolt from Gr5 titanium (4 times stronger than 316SS) to avoid breakage from hamfisters.
Testing of one will be in about a months time at which time I'll post pics etc, I think the cost will be around $35. stay tuned and be patient

Is there some way that Jerry can make this thread blink on and off when the kit is available?

Thanks for the update Don.

The proposed switch IMHO will only indicate oil pressure (or lack thereof!) to the rocker gear. At best it could be an indication of wear in the rocker/spindle area wouldn't it? I like Madass's idea very much but wouldn't it be wiser to have a sensor/switch between oil pump and crankshaft? Has anybody tried that? It would mean some kind of modification to the timing cover so there is more work involved. Maybe it could be combined with a full flow oil filter in stead of having it in the oil return pipe. Even more work. I don't know if the standard oil feed pump would have enough capacity. Any thoughts on this? Sorry for the bad english.
