Hey gang
Ok i think i have seen this in a thread in the past but damn its amazing when one does a search on oil leaks, the stuff that comes up!

so.....even with my PCV installed i am still getting a small seaping/leak in what looks like the 3 cylinder barrel base studs on the front of the motor - at first i though it was leaking down from the head but it looks very dry - my question is has anyone ever seen oil wick up those three studs (i replaced them when i redid the motor recently) when the bike is running? its the only explanation i can see. If so how did you fix it - remove the studs completely and use sealant on the whole thing - or just remove the nuts and add sealant to them and the washer?

thanks as always

mike

If the oil is creeping up the stud threads, you will need to apply some red Locktite to them and reassemble. I would also suspect the base gasket itself. It's paper composition often doesn't always seem to hold up to the hammering of the pistons jerking the cylinder up and down. I had one leak right after a fresh assembly, so I removed it and replaced it with Locktite Plastic Gasket. Hasn't leaked since.

On some barrels, I understand that it is not all barrels, the drillings for the studs break through into the pushrod tunnel, and as you say oil can wick up.
Sealant on the threads in the barrel as Danno said is the answer.

ths guys - locktited them up - i have one of the copper base gaskets on the bike - so could be that but it sure looks like its coming up the studs rather than leaking out the base - i'll see if this works and if not contemplate if its bad enough to remove the barrels etc
thx!
