Hi, does anyone know the size of the ferrule that clamps the oil pipe leaving the tank, cheers, David

You might have to be more specific, David.
There are 4 lines leading to/from the oil tank, not including the chain oiler, and I don't think they are all the same size, although they might be.
And I don't think of a ferrule doing any clamping, more like a sleeve that gets clamped itself.
I have my tank out for repair and shd get it back soon to measure for you. someone else will probably come along before that to help.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I'm referring to return and feed to and from the oil tank, cheers, David

I believe you have an 'S' Type, so central oil tank feed/return?

I see ferrules in this pic, but my '74 is much different.
Sorry, David, but If yours is like the one in the photo, I'll be no help, even when my tank gets back.

I think Old Britts has ferrules, but they're hard to find on their web pages, you might look under the 'fittings' section under the fuel and oil lines in the general section, or easier just call Ella, she knows everything. It will depend if you still have those barbs on your oil tank banjos and that gizmo on the timing chest too, I removed mine, they're just soldered on so I could use 3/8" line, I think the original on the central tank was 7/16 but don't quote me on that. Then there's the crimping, but you can just cut a proper sized nut in half after drilling it out and clamp it in a vice, or if you happen to have a Rigid flaring tool, you might be able to use that. I used my Rigid tool for the fuel ferrules, but it leaves rings on the crimp, but they're hard to see.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind putting ferrules back on mine instead of those crappy hose clamps. Looks much neater.

Good tip on using a nut for a crimp tool.
I would cut the nut in half first, then clamp the halves together, then drill it out a drill size under the ferrule OD. Or, you can clamp two pieces of flat stock together, and drill into the gap between the pieces.

I agree, would rather have ferrules over hose clamps, but then it is a PITA if a hose has to come off.

Slick

Thanks for all the replies. I did forget to mention I have an S model with the central oil tank, David

Make sure to buy extras. Kind of like I always buy seals in pairs.
