could be worth calling Norvil tech, Rgm or similar if you are in such a hurry

On screen 1018 is close to what I painted mine in 99. That was straightforward Fiat Giallo. Still have 1/2 a can thinned but no code, sorry.

Hello,

The paint guy is about to respray by '70 Commando, but I have some doubts on the colour code (in Europe we use RAL codes).

I am in doubt between the 1016 and 1018, what would be the closest to the OEM yellow?
Thanks

You are probably aware the original tanks were polyester resin and not paint.
I have 2 original yellow fiberglass tanks. One is cut up, so I took a piece out and polished it to get the dirt and UV bleached color off.
On the pot company site the RAL1011 is closest and on the syston.com site the RAL1023 is closest, all based on my computer screen and my eye...IMO the 1016 and 1018 are too light. I painted a metal tank yellow for my 72 combat and it is probably just like the pix above, but compared to the piece of tank I have in my hand it is a bit pale/light.

Which RAL code did you use in the end? 1011 or 1023?
Imho the 1011 is too different from what I have seen around.

Thanks

sorry
I'm in the USA and in 1989 when I painted my bike it was a fiat color, that I also used on my Lotus Elan+2. I had no such thing as RAL then.
Today I would suggest using a service that color scans the sample and creates the formula to make the paint. Could you find a gel coated fiberglass tank to scan?

Scanning is the way. One of my side covers is in yellow gelcoat and yes it is a shade or two darker than that pic.

Not the best color shot, it comes off as an orange tint.

Found it!!

http://www.perbang.dk/rgb/F8E000/

Apparently the conversion goes as follows:

British Standard BS381C > Code 309
therefore the HEX value (no idea what this means) is F8E000.
To this HEX value there are some approximations in the RAL table:
95% RAL 1016 Sulfur yellow
94% RAL 1018 Zinc yellow
...
...
and so on.

I will ask my paint guy to create a HEX F8E000 code, it should be ok.

Thanks everyone!
