Norvil lightweight twin disc kit feedback.

Like this you mean ?

(adjustable span and ratio, lovely bit of kit)

Yes, exactly but it needs careful working out which diameter cylinder to get as the 27:1 is calculated differently.

If you haven't already, do try SBS DC compound pads in your current set up. (I currently have 523 DC in an AP Lockheed caliper). They are the best pads I have used in this caliper so far, great feel and stopping power. I shall use them at Gedinne in August. They are a better choice than EBC GPFAX016HH, which I had been using.

These pads are sold for road and track use, so I tried to locate some in the full race compound. SBS told me not to bother with the DCC compound, saying that the only way I would tell the difference is with pressure testing equipment! I accept that. Others have been racing with these SBS DC pads for some time.

SBS say all of their pads work with both steel and iron discs!
these (DC) are quoted as for race use ONLY on one purchasing site.

Hi Nigel, Im keen on this thread as I need to upgrade the front brake system on the race bike as I have been using the kitted master cylinder and standard caliper, disc and for awhile after market pads (Japanese) now not available .
I use Ferrodo pads currently.
I am about to have someone else trial the race bike and need to upgrade the system.
I am limited to 2 x pots in the caliber due to our NZCMRR rules and also maximum disc diameter so will watch closely any answers on here.
Regards mike

AP callipers would be your best bet then I reckon.

Are you limited to disc type / design?

The lightweight Norvil ones and 4 pot Brembos I’m using on the Seeley are not eligible for classic / historic racing here, but I’m only doing track days so can fit whatever I like !

The Norvil PR discs (drilled and lightened as much as you dare), with AP callipers, are about the best option for classic racing here I reckon.

For my road bike (the blue ‘un) I’ve now ordered a pair of lightweight Norvil 12” discs, Norvil PR sliders, and a twin disc hub. I’ve got a pair of 4 pot Brembos and a radial master cyl under the bench, hopefully I can cobble it all together somehow…

I have been using EPFA095HH (Brembo 4 pot caliper) and do accept that the suggested pads will no doubt be an improvement.

However, my mind is kinda set on twin discs now. I have been well and truly spoiled…

Does that not surpass your personal limit on Gold things?
It looks good to my eyes tho:)

Ha! It does a bit actually. The new ones for the blue ‘un have silver centres, and black callipers, so should be a little easier on the eye!

Yes , not allowed floating discs and only allowed two pot calibers
Try the SBS 523DC pads, I understand previously sold as Bendix, and having a pair of each still unused, they certainly look very similar.

Bit of a faff bedding in, but, I used my local 'track', midweek! ;)

Update:

First, the guys at Norvil were super helpful both via email and phone in sorting out what I want.

Second, I paid for the parts yesterday afternoon and received them this morning !!

The buggers… I’ve no excuse not to get cracking now…

I'm using AP Racing pads with CP2696 calipers on the twin disc setup on my T140, despite the 'not for road use' warnings, and I really like them:
They're not grabby, as would be expected with race pads, but 2-finger braking is available from the get-go.

Any experience with EBC Sintered HH ? As in comparison to your current pads . Txs.

I'm afraid not. I fitted Ferodo pads to my T160 (standard caliper set-up, 13mm front master cylinder), and while not in the same league as my T140 setup, I was happy with the performance.

So, a brief update…

The service and help from Norvil was great (I dealt with Gareth mainly).

Apart from a couple of supplied bolts being the wrong length, everything looks very good to my eye.

I had a huuuuge wait for the wheel build, but finally got it back and all fitted up.

I’ve still got to bed it in before judging, but first impressions are that the bite is not as strong as I’d hoped for, so some pad experimentation based on the above suggestions may be called for.

But, so far at least, very happy with the Norvil parts and service.
