Hi guys,
I am restoring a 72 Combat and I want to temporarily install a gearbox I bought years ago while I rebuild the original matching numbers box. The problem is I dont know if it is a working unit. It turns smoothly but I cant seem to shift the gears on it. Should I be able to shift the gears and find nuetral without the gearbox installed on the bike? It seems to be in gear because when I use the kick start lever to turn it over the drive sprocket turns with the mainshaft. When I move the shifter up and down it moves freely but does not seem to engage a new gear or find a nuetral position. I guess I am hoping that there is a way confirm that the unit is at least functioning before I Install it. Any feedback appreciated.
Regards,
Gordon
