When did the NORTON embossed peashooters begin.

NORTON embossed peashooters

I know that Andover Norton can supply them new now,
but did Nortons ever supply them like this before, or are they a recent invention ?

There are several threads that mention this, but none that answer this question (?).
They do add a touch of the authentic !

no norton never used those they used baffled and un baffled pea shooters but all had the welds ground off and no norton logo ,,,,,,,,,,baz

They look just like the ones (AN ?) on my Mk2a, I doubt that ebay Norton is original including those mufflers.
eBay the land of.

Its original.
Its an easy fix.
Only needs adjusting.
Was running great before being parked.

I believe that the logo silencers were so they could pass inspection as genuine equipment. AN offers non logo silencers if you want them. The logos cost more.
06-1978/S/NL Roadster-Silencer, seamless, no logo (as original on 750 Commandos)

What inspection ?

Annual safety DMV inspection, noise in particular, I suppose the branded silencer shows original
equipment so the let it go.
I thought that Joe posted on this but I cannot find it on this list or on the AN page. Latest AN newsletter
mentions the current peashooters and mutes.
Spoke to AN recently and they say they are going to look into producing proper peashooters for the later
models toward the end of this year. They say no silencer mutes in stock currently.
You must admit that the silencers now offered are definitely louder than original peashooters, way too
loud for me and certainly so for the neighbors.

ok not sure about the USA but in the UK if the bike was made before april 1986 it needs no markings for an MOT after that date of manufacture it needs a BSAU 183 stamp on it ,last week i fitted a pair of new stainless pea shooters to my norton and although they are straight through they are a lot quieter!! they have a perferated tube inside unlike the ones i removed that had a steel tube down the centre with serrations down it ,,,,,,,,,,baz

An old Norton parts dealer (me) remembers when they were introduced in the early 1980s which means post Commando production.

At the time noise limits were drastically reduced for new motorcycles all over the globe. I believe the Norton logo was put on to help Norton owners with annual inspections, registrations after import in foreign countries, and the police. It certainly did that in ze Fatherland!

It coincided with the "Genuine Norton Factory Spare Parts" logo introduction, so the branding was probably a defence action against the parts pirates, too.

Joe/Andover Norton

I remember seeing a set of logo embossed "bean can" silencers for a MK3 back in the 90's. I never knew if they were OEM, but I thought they looked pretty cool.
