I understand that Norton fielded a rider and racer at this year's Isle of Man race. I haven't heard a thing about it. I'm wondering what kind of bike and engine was used. I watched a lot on tv and never heard Norton mentioned.
I'm sure some of you closer to the action can supply some details.
Thanks,
Jaydee

Purely a PR luxury activity stunt - so has nothing at all to do with new Nortons in any way or shape but the shared Norton decal logo.

We have had really good TV coverage of the IoM racing here in NZ, as part of the coverage, there was a dedicated programme on the new Nortons, interviews with Garner and footage of the build processes.
Cameron Donald of Australia was riding the race Norton with a V4 Aprilla engine, he is one of the top runners at the IoM in recent history
Good PR for the factory, if not a Norton engine, that is being worked on.
Regards Mike

Piaggio who own Aprilia will soon have a controlling (financial) share of Norton.

At least it would be out of site, the 961 looks to be a good bike but the engine looks like it was modeled off a up sized Chinese pit bike.
The Triumph engines got the classic look closer to the target (imo)

No doubt the Porsche cup sells a lot of Volkswagen's on Mondays too.
Not to mention some old duffer coming up to the pits to reminisce about his V4 Norton from the day, I ad one of those lad.

Name one logical reason to have a British bike with an Italian engine being palmed off as a Norton besides 50% of the sideline believing anything they hear including the odd noise out of the exhaust.

Maybe there is a (re badged) 'Norton scooter on the way.

sounds like a Norton to me .

The Triumph has a vauge resemblance to a Bonneville from a styling sketch that took all of two minutes , though maybe took two hours to get through . :?
The 961 isnt any better or worse a resemblance , to a Norton even .

The anti wizz bang brigade whined about tackey stamped out levers and tiney protrudeances of tail lights and exposed tank seams. Not to mention hidious
PLASTIC INSTRUMENTS and other extremeties that would get wiped of , Er , . . . in going through the sage brush at 90 . Normally translated as falling off .

How many times is this , and still NO 961 . At least it could have finished . And proved the durability and competance of the illustrious marque .

Well, looking at the bright side, at least Aprilia make really good engines.

Wonder if I could fit one in a featherbed?

"Only thing I have heard about the TT is that the lap record is now held by a Kiwi. 212 kmph average speed."

-Who is going to ride a McIntosh 500 Manx Norton at the Classic Manx in August.

Bruce was supposed to be at the Feb Festival but I gather he was crook.

See if he can widen the 3 seconds that Tyler Lincoln ( 16) was behind Cameron Donald on Manx Nortons :D
