Norton 400 ES Electra

I know it's gutless, on the fragile side but apart of these defaults, any good thing to say about these little twins?

I always thought the rap on Electras was the fact they dumped the motors into chassis designed for bigger bikes. (AMC badge/parts bin engineering)

:shock: They actually had frames based on the Francis-Barnett 250, and the 250 Norton Jubilee version also had the spindly AMC lightweight forks and small 6" brake wheels.

However, the 350 Navigator and 400 Electra models did have Roadholder forks and Dominator brakes/wheels.

I'm not familiar with which model tanks fit on which frames, other than Commandos which all fit each other.

The Triton I'm building is my first featherbed frame, it came without a tank, and I've never seen the underside of any other Norton tanks to form a comparison with.

That range of bikes were the lightweights. Did not use Featherbed frames. You might be able to compare these pictures to your Slimline and see if it might work.

I'd have no way to know if it would fit, short of a test-fit.

It's all down to the contours of the underside.

I'd also be concerned with scale. These were smaller bikes.

You might want to kick it over to the BritBike forum, they are less Commando-specific.

Sorry guys, the Electra tank will not fit a Featherbed. Tried this on an Atlas Slimline and no way. Same applies to the Wideline. Looks very much like a smaller version of the Atlas tank.
That's why I'm giving it away!

Hi Philippe,

One good thing about the Electra is it's light enough you can through it in a dumpster...did that once.

Phil Radford once called this one of the nails in Norton's coffin.
