NGK Plug Check

The nice thing about Champions, they have such a crappy reputation that no one would bother faking them.
Having said that, Champions have always worked fine for me.
I've got a drawer full of new eBay fake NGKs.

Well I'm wondering if the eBay iridium plugs that I had were fake!!

Just out of interest why do you keep a drawer full of fake NGK plugs?

probably he resells them on ebay:D but nobody want to buy them....:p

sorry there , jus couldn't resist a good zinger

When I have time I want to test them all for conductivity. And have a really good look at them to note the differences between the fakes and the real thing.

Just for fun.

thats like going around to the garage and checking tire pressures...when you come down to Elma we should go have some fun....not checking plugs; brown trout, wobbly pops or whatever we can find,

I was wondering the same thing!!! Actually the same seller sold me some magic beans , he told me to crush them up and put them in my oil tank to stop my camshaft/followers from wearing out !!!!!

It's just dawned on me I'm running resister plug caps , could this have killed them?

It seems to me that using resistor plugs or resistor caps (not both?) depends on the type of ignition system you have.
I have an old Boyer, so no resistors, but I think the more modern ones (Mark 4 Boyer, Pazon Smartfire and others) recommend a resistor in the cap or the plug.

It's Lucas Rita ignition, the anoying thing is when I bought the iridium plugs I bought a a pair of non resister plug caps and promptly left them on the shelf!! Totally forgot to fit them

It’s true Baz. It’s a minefield to the layperson!

With resister / none resister plugs - caps - leads and with different coils, and different EI systems requiring different coils and different resistances...

There’s no wonder we get different opinions on the best EI units!

I’ll wager that most riders out there are running their set up sub optimal without even knowing it!

Hence, my personal opinion: unless you actually know what you’re doing with all this stuff (which I certainly do not) then buying a complete EI kit, from a known good supplier, or at the very least, ensuring you buy ALL of the components that they specify, is surely the best way to go.

Even the most expensive EI set up available cost peanuts compared to the value of easy starting, and good running, and time saving, in the long run.

My bike is a highly tuned, highly modified, high CR, 850 and it’s starts first or second kick EVERY time. As much as I’d like to take credit for this, I can’t. It’s simply because the ignition system, in its entirety, works as intended. And that’s because Matt at cNw has sorted out the optimal EI unit / coil / leads package... that works as intended.

Mixing and matching from dubious eBay sources to save a couple of $ has to be an extreme example of false economy.

All only IMHO of course.

Hi Baz, AFAIK Rita is good with no resistive plugs/caps/wires........BUT you should have two 6 volts coils , no modern single coil (a dwell affair said Dyno dave!).

Yep I have two 6v coils fitted
Cheers

Yep I get what you mean, the more I think I know about ignition systems/bikes in general the more I realise I don't!!
My t160 has irridium plugs from the same source and runs spot on, but it has elecktronic Sachs ignition and mikuni carbs
It also ran spot on with standard Ngk's
