Just wanted to say 'hello' to everyone here and thank you all for the interesting information. I live in a small Texas town named Bastrop, and have a 'few' Brit bikes. I am semi-retired, and have a shop behind my home that I use for restorations and repair of customers bikes and my own. My first motorcycle was a brand new 1972 Norton 750 Commando. I saved up my money and paid $1205.45 FOB! Old Mr. Krumm who owned the Indian-Norton-Kawasaki dealership on Barton Springs road had ordered a custom paint PURPLE METALFLAKE Commando with fiberglass tank and side covers...I fell in love right there! When it was prepped (I stood there while it was uncrated and assembled) I hopped on it, and rode down to Lamar Blvd. in Austin, where it sputtered and ran out of gas! Krumm was a cheapo. Only put about a half pint in the tank for prep! I will try to post more later. Happy to meet you guys,

Tim

Greetings BSAguy, welcome to the forum, you will find some like-minded enthusiasts on here and a few who carry on the legacy of Mr. Krumm, I myself am a cheapskate from time to time, normally when trying to get a good deal on Norton parts, at other times I squander money with an amazing profligacy, normally in an effort to rectify the mistake of having bought cheap Norton parts in an 'allegedly' good deal!

I also fall victim to the 'good deal' on pattern parts occasionally; usually found at the swapmeet (jumble) and purported to be 'good as the original' but I also have found it usually doesn't work that way. But, hope springs eternal! Yesterday I was sorting through a pile of parts I bought a while back, and paid 500 for. In all the used stuff was a nice, new looking Norton tls brake and drum! Now that made the whole pile worthwhile, I can tell you. :) Then I saw the lowers peeking out at me, and there they were! A pair of extended fork tubes were there as well :( Wish I had a pair of the standard length downtubes, but for now I have just reconstructed it. Works great!
I am currently working on a nice old 1964 Atlas. Just need a frame now. Dare I hope to find a decent wideline featherbed? At least, one I can afford? Here is the type of tls drum I have, and I was hoping that someone on this site might be able to tell me what years/models Norton this came off...Dang it! I am unable to lad the photo, but it has a square faced scoop, and three wind kettle holes in the plate for airflow. Lever between both sides. Aluminium construction. Any help?

I rode the /5 BMW up (I live just north of Galveston) to the Harvest Classic after the fire, I was HORRIFIED.

It sounds like the brake plate I have on my Atlas.....I think it is a Dunstall twin leading shoe....definitely not stock Norton.

Had a opy of Splitenz first Record from a Second Hand Record shop , with B.S.A. mcIntosh stamped on it . Are you related .

The one in the Video was in an aussie mag around 96 , with pictures of its insides . A reworked Comando crank , steel plate flywheel . all bolted up .
think it gives 860 with a Routt or the like 750 Barrel .
