Hello, new Norton owner here in Southern California. I just got a '66 N15CS basket case with custom painted tanks from a long time back and sitting on a shelf since. There is no battery side housing or cover, for some reason. At first inventory it looks to be mainly complete and not terribly beat up.

'66 must be the year for me, previous two British bikes were a BSA Hornet and a Triumph T120R.

Not sure of plans for it yet, as I have another bike project in the works and need to focus. Time to do some research is all I'll have for now.

Welcome aboard
Have a look at post #50 in the: 'Lets have a quick hands up' forum.. An inspiring photo :)

Yeah that's really nice, got that front disc brake and is using the bike, sweet. I have been on a bike buying binge, since March I've gotten a '82 Suzuki GS1100E with Mr. Turbo kit and restored it, it's throwing down 185 HP on the dyno, a '73 CB 750K being restored, a '94 Yamaha XT350 play bike. And I already had a '13 Ducati Multistrada. I love all bikes, but Nortons have always been one of my favorites. In the early 70s my older brother and friend rode all around Boston area, brother on a 71 oil in frame Bonneville and friend on a Commando. That Commando was the bomb. I couldn't pass up the N15CS for $150 :)

$150.00????????????????????????????????????????

Yeah my son keeps finding deals on Craigslist, hard to pass up for chump change.

I'm wondering what this ghoulish looking instrument housing is from, any ideas? I don't believe it's from this bike per pictures I've seen.

Yeah, what's crazy is that this year I've gotten the 3 best deals ever. Not sure what's going on but I'm on a roll.

The GS1100E Mr. Turbo was $1000 and has EPM Italian magnesium wheels and lots of go fast goodies inside. It was a 185MPH Bonneville racer from new, built by Don Vesco. It has plaques, time slips, pictures, and tons of spare parts, I've already made my money back selling stuff. Waiting on tire to be mounted and then I can finally ride it after a few months of spit and polish.

Then in June I got an 81 and 82 Goldwing for free plus a sidecar and made $1300 on them right away. Here's a pic of the Suzuki fresh off the dyno and a closeup of the motor, it's a beast. I cosmetically restored it myself.

Looks like a Royal Enfield to me, probably Continental GT, maybe.

I removed the primary chain and timing covers to see how things look, seems fine with no damage, metal shards etc. I have no previous Norton knowledge, just experience from many other rebuilds. I need a manual.

The connecting rods and cam move freely for ~30 degrees of rotation then it meets resistance. I shifted the gears and spun the sprocket to see if I could find neutral and gears, thinking maybe the transmission is munched. Even in neutral the interference is there so I have to figure out what's binding. From my BSA and Triumph experience the Brits made good transmissions, I never had any issues anyway.

In the parts pile was a set of barrels, really destroyed at the bottom from a catastrophic engine failure, but they couldn't be from this bike, as I see no case damage at all. The engine is matching #'s with the frame.

I have a spare set of cases, no history so I have no idea why. They are decent and usable. I'll be selling them, maybe someone can use them.

This is sort of like archeology and it's fun for me. I am missing the top yoke, license plate holder, left side cover, headlight mount and probably other bits, but those are the ones that stand out.

I suspected the Magneto might be locked as it wasn't a clunking interference sound, and that was it. I think the bottom end is healthy but I have to clean things up, it's been open for a long time and it needs a swish/vacuum etc. I may have to start a build thread haha.

Hi, I have just bought a '66 N15CS and already have '68 N15CS I just love hybrids, got P11, P11a, Ranger 750 too. Keep posting your build. Roddy Allan

Still on fence whether to restore it or not, I have another bike in progress taking my attention. Parts will add up on a one-by-one basis, some quite hard to find and I'm not sure of all the stuff I will need yet.

Though I'm in the thick of fixing a couple of my other bikes up, I took a quick inventory. I am missing these parts to complete the bike, not counting the parts for top end, forks, brakes, magneto rebuild (etc) are:

  • side cover
  • upper fork yoke
  • shocks
  • instrument mount bracket
  • tail light assembly
  • side stand
  • Fuel and oil tank caps
  • mufflers
  • headlight mount brackets
  • handlebars
  • replacement tachometer bezel/glass
  • whatever goes under the side cover (non oil tank) - I have nothing that goes there (tool box? is there a battery?)
  • no air filter but it was set up with 2 into 1 intake for a single Mikuni (though I have two of those)

Extra spare parts that came with the bike to sell:

  • cylinder head, valves are in but head is dirty and missing caps
  • engine cases, nice shape
  • Royal Enfield interceptor gauge/yoke bracket - sold
  • 19" Dunlop rim, very nice shape - may swap with the one laced up though.
  • rear hub with brake/sprocket assembly

Barrels are rusty, not sure if able to hone them into shape.
Forks are straight and not seized but I need to take apart to see how the stanchions are.
Rear rim is pretty rusty so I'd replace.

I can get frame, swingarm and footpegs, brackets etc. powder coated for free, well a bottle of good tequila at least.
I'd have to get someone really talented to match the side cover paint to the nice oil tank pattern.

So a fair bit of stuff missing, but what is there will clean up well and the bike would be quite nice when done.

If anyone has parts I'm missing or needs what I have (swap?) let me know.

Good luck on building your bike. You can advertise your wanted parts on this website for free. . . . .

GPZKAT

Looks like you wil need the complete triple tree. Your lower crown (pictured) is not correct for the G15/N15.
Top crown is sold by Andover Norton (at a price), p/n 030027 .
You may be lucky and score a complete set on Fleebay.
Walridge Motors may be able to help out.

Yeah just a quick check on eBay and I think that was the lower part of the Royal Enfield, oops. The guy I sold it to is in India and asked for other parts, will see if he wants it.
