New Lighting/Ignition Alternator Kit

Very interesting stuff. This company seems like they are switched on. www.electrexworld.co.uk is the mother web site. I don't know if 50 Watts is enough but you wouldn't need a battery. I am guessing that with LED lighting through out you might be able to get away with it. A buddy near me has his commando wired with little bitty wire and LED lights for everything in an attempt to get his total wattage down real low. How many watts was that "truck lite" which was a totally LED head light?
 
that's anemic at best - i ran something similar in my Bevel ducati since they have a shitty charging systems and you's struggle to see any thing at night on low, high beam wasn't much better

but why would you want it anyways when there are very good charging systems/ignitions available now for much cheaper?

  • -Complete digital self generating cdi ignition and alternator, pre-programmed advance curve gives optimum performance for the 4 stroke twin engine.
    -The digital cdi is separate from the HT coil so a twin plug head system can be supplied.
    -No battery,contact breaker assembly, or distributor required.
    -Simple timing set-up, the rotor and stator have engraved marks, these are aligned as per the fitting detail.

so you believe the hype - 50w! of course if you don't drive it at night (of just take pictures of it and post on the web) it may be adequate :mrgreen: oh least we not forget, its more expensive so it must be better right? :roll:

i have a very similar system in my 1200 laverda that pushes 170w, programmable CDI blah blah blah - and its barely adequate -
 
Ignition systems take about 5 watts at max out rates. If never in traffic congestion nor needing real hi beam just fit a big lithium battery and top off at home each trip. LED's for light is only way to exist in public with just 50 watts, which only happens at some decent rpm too. Brent is sure one suspenseful builder, Al tube swingarm, aged Mg wheels and likely stalling out on brake light use with the tiny charger.
 
50W is way too little for me. I like the all in one aspect, but it needs to have 100W minimum. I have load shed a lot, but not nearly down to 50W.
I have all LED lights, a lithium battery and all digital electrical center, as a safety margin 8A would be a little over what is needed.
I liked packaging of this unit, just not the output.
 
50 watt is way too low if you use the bike at night, do the sums, with a 55/60w headlight then add the taillight brake light, instruments you can forget about using indicators :!:
 
I have an Electrex flywheel and alternator on my Ducati which has behaved itself in the short time I've had it, but beware the Electrex rectifier / regulator. It leaked current with the ignition switched off - a known fault which Electrex refused to acknowledge or give a replacement for when I contacted them. This I think could be corrected, but why should you have to do it? The Podtronics unit is superior. The packaging of the Electrex kit may be attractive but there are better components available that have stood the test of time. The flywheel puller is not supplied, so you would have to buy one of those as well.
 
Hi, nice to hear some feedback, I was tempted at a time........I had seen somewhere that a Belgium company is making nearly the same components, will try to find it , just for info, still digging out some good electronic system...........!
