I'm still running points on my Combat and have been thinking about upgrading to a TriSpark this summer. Are you guys implying thatbis a bad idea?

Talk to CNW about this upgrade and follow their suggestions regarding coils, etc.
There is some reason to believe that the stock coils may cause some troubles. Your charging system needs to be rock solid.

The main reason I changed from points (and old boyer) was to eliminate kickbacks, which it does. It has generlly improved performance and gives a rock solid idle with the idle stabilization curve. Never had a problem and would not go back to points.

Good point about the idle stabilization with the Trispark. Before I installed mine it was hit or miss now its spot on all the time. I also upgraded the coils with the CNW coil kit at the same time while I was at it.

Good set of contact breakers and AAU can spoil ya starting while just stepping on kicker to find TDC, it just turns on at steady idle. I know better than wind out my factory Combat like I did Peel so even more so appreciate the eager Combat response of factory AAU curve scooting back up after braking for blinds.

I've been able to ride this last season with flailing battery charge that didn't even toot horn but a swifter than usual kick coughed off then one kick starts rest of the day. EI needs a turn or two to kick in the processor to spark. Ask Fred at Old Brits or Powerarch why others ignitions might need idle stabilization that even decent points don't need.

Btw did Trispark say anything about upgrading their heat tolerance as can't imagine our charger systems could over power them electrically. The E-Starts are at risk of back fire if starter voltage drops below the EI brain barrier threshold, bing bang clunk.

If you really want an optimal curve which varies somewhat with engine combo and conditions run in then only two ways to go w/o any compromises, Comstock-CNW or Powerarc.
