New Hi-Rider?

Yes I agree, that’s what’s required if the Commando is to survive long term.

Trouble is, your spec list basically reads like a Thruxton R ... Competing with Triumph in that space would be rather tough ...

Like the original Hi-Rider, a few styling tweaks would have produced a really cool version, but just adding some ape-hangers and a funky seat does not a new model make. They should have had Craig Vetter style both.

Out of those, it’s the last one, the scrambler that strikes me the most. That’s what everyone else is doing... and selling these days.

Although that is an excellent point, and you are right, the Duc and the Triumph, now Beemer are all on it, I guess it just gets down to personal concept and use. I don't see myself riding on a trail much (although dirt bikes are where it all started for me). The first one, the roadster is pretty much what I would have in mind, especially if your going to put higher bars on it.

For any or all of those lovely concepts to be viable, I would think they would be pretty spendy. Which is probably why the California doesn't have a different tank and seat.

I agree, I personally prefer the roadster, not sure how many they’d sell though. Whereas it seems manufacturers can’t make enough scramblers, even the new Brough Supieror has just been given a scrambler makeover version!

But like Danno says, there’d be quite a lot to it, so would be an expensive exercise, especially for a company already flat out with new 1200 and 650 ranges.

I sat on a California today and was really surprised... it works! I thought the hi bars would be wrong with the stock pegs, but it really is comfortable.

And just to clarify, before more folk ask... no, I’m not getting one, I’m getting a CR !

Nigel,

Not to worry.
So you expressed a fondness for the California's ergonomics.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.;)
