Hi I'm Mike from Minnesota. I have always thought Nortons were cool bikes. I have Triumphs, sohc Hondas, a Shovel, Bsa and others have come and gone. But as of fall 2011, the Brit bikes really have become my obsession. I never thought I'd have a Norton.
This fall I acquired a 73 850 Commando that was chopped in the 70's for a super deal. I got it running well, did a few things just to be able to take it out before the cold weather. I am impressed with the smooth torque of these old turds.
I am now into the engine and need some advice on the worn exhaust port threads. It seems to be a common problem by searching the web.
Are there any inserts I can purchase, since I do have access to a machine shop. Or can anyone recommend a good guy to do the fix for me?
Also the cam bush on the primary side turned in the case, that concerns me as well. It fell out when I removed the cam.
There are other issues, but minor ones that can be remedied.
I know it may seem like blasphemy to many, but I'm redoing it in its 70's chopper glory. The rear frame had been cut and modified many years ago, so I don't feel bad about doing it this way.
My 78 Bonnie is a beautiful stock bike, so I have that when I feel like cruising an original.

Thanks

Welcome; and good to see someone who appreciates what he's got, even though some may not see through the same eyes.

I'll post a another in there.
