Bogus,
Not much to speculate- we are currently in the process of getting everything re-made for the Proddy Racers. Hence my own genuine Proddy was in Andover over the winter to measure up parts. Drawings weren't done in the old days in the Andover Thruxton Performance Shop. Bits were made to sample and/or rough sketches for the few (105 total?) Proddies built.
We hope to have everything Proddy together by the end of this year- if possible sooner. As we have so many other projects on the go- Dommi cylinder barrels is another one- and our suppliers are currently flat-out things take longer than we'd like.

Thank you all for the compliments. The website cost me most of my spare time in the last few months, and our Simon will shortly quit and open a photo studio I suspect!

The website is going to be work in progress for a while. There are a lot of things we would like to integrate/update but first of all the webshop needs to be completed.
Joe

That's great news :)

One issue I'm facing is I have a 'correct' PR tank from the early '70s but as it's fibreglass I'm reluctant to use it. It also weighs a ton!
Would you consider manufacturing alloy tanks of the correct shape? The current ones on the market are fine but a poor representation of the real thing.

Back on-topic, the team have done a great job and deserve a bonus ;)

Andy,
We want to first makew things to OE spec. If there is call for ally tanks I know a very good tankmaker in the UK who can no doubt make them- he made a beauty for my Manx- but cost may be more than people want to pay.
At the moment we supply the glass fibre tanks but impregnate them against modern fuels before we send them out.

There are modern resins that will easily withstand the ethanol. That being said there's a reason the UK banned fiberglass tanks for the road. Accidents. An alloy tank will dent before it ruptures.

Dave,
To my great embarrasment I threw the genuine Proddy Racer away at high speed at Paranoiaring early this month trying to overtake another rider on the outside and being somewhat optimistic about tyre grip....
Original plastic petrol tank staid in one piece, only had a few marks from the gravel. Having seen what can happen with alloy tanks at the seams I am not 100% convinced they are that much safer!

Crash hard enough and nothing will survive.

What looks best? are the fin profiles, (not the number of) the same for the 500 & 600/650 barrels?

The 500 & earlier 600 barrels have a large radius on the front section of the fins. The later 600 & 650 barrels have a v section the same as the 750/850 type. I can't remember if the rest is the same, as I haven't looked closely at any since I sold my 500 Dommi 30 years ago.

Cheers Matchless, I will keep an eye out for them and pay more attention to the fins.

As for alloy tanks, these are now failing at the welds when used with ethanol fuel - takes longer than resin, but quick enough for one alloy tank manufacturer to refuse to make alloy tanks for road use. Fibreglass tanks, as far as I am aware there are resins out there as per the previous poster says will stand up to ethanol, but the manufacturers of the resin will not guarantee it. It must also be noted that many laminating workshops will not make fuel tanks anymore so as to avoid any hassle when they fail due to accident or ethanol use.

Another option would be spun poly tanks, much like modern bikes and cars but the quantities involved would need to large to make it viable.

The website is looking good, and no doubt will get even better in the future, remember it has to be all things to all people everywhere - traders, retailers, restorers, the public - some young and some old, many of which are not computer savvie.

We looked into spun tanks quite a while ago. Prohibitive tooling costs for our sort of numbers. Not a problem for people running a production line like Triumph, Aprilia or BMW needeing thousands of one component.

Then again I heard about problems with leaking petrol tanks from one famous Italian supplier of major motorcycle manufacturers.

Dommi barrels: we had the first couple of test castings done and are confident we'll get there. We will cast in iron, the pattern equipment was originally intended for ally barrels, so the fins were a problem at first. Our foundry thinks this can be overcome.

Website: Work in progress. I am currently still struggling with the new software, having used a different one ever since my first website in the early 1990s(!). The old ANIL ("ANIL"= Andover Norton International Ltd) website got so convoluted even I often coudn't find what I kew was there even at second or third attempt- and I had built it! I try to work a bit on it every night.

I have seen a plastic tank on one bike, Aprillia if I remember correctly, grow enough so once removed would not fit back on it's rear mounting hole.
Also, Joe, whilst I don't wish to sound rude, you still have not answered my question regarding fin profile.

Not rude at all but I have no pictures here. Will look into it in the shop. Can't answer your question presently. Excuse my ignorance, this is a new item and I need to get up to speed on it.
Joe

You crashed again??

No injuries I hope..unfortunately I'll be DNS the whole season, but back in 2017! You'll be at Slovakia?

Shop looks good btw but don't need anything right now, Commando runs flawlessly 8)

Take care,

Daniel

Daniel,
Crashing is my speciality! At least at Paranoiaring....
No Slovakiaring, I think it is not worth the trip, but most certainly Rijeka this year with the girls (daughters).
See you there?
Joe

And I thought you had finally abandoned that hobby

No Rijeka for me either this year  ..2017 should be ok. Still waiting for Hermann to deliver my CFK tank & seat for the Beemer though, need to ping him & see how he's doing.

Warning - might pay you a visit in the next few weeks  ..you're in on Saturdays?

Cheers,

Daniel

PS: was trying to post a couple of pix from a recent trip to the Alps with the Commando (have even created a Photobucket account) but no luck..is that related to a minimum number of postings?

No. Are you inserting the correct Photobucket image "IMG" code?

Yesterday I was able to copy the IMG link from PB but the pic wouldn't show in the preview here (just the "x" instead of the pic). Today the IMG link from PB is greyed out and cannot be copied at all. I've tried all sorts of tricks on all pics I uploaded to PB but no luck..

Will try again tomorrow but have little hope..

Cheers,

Daniel

HA - woks now!!

Thought I'd share my Positive Experience on my recent order today. I must of had 40+ line items when I placed my order yesterday. This morning I received an E-Mail for shipping cost which I thought it was very reasonable. I used the Pay Pal payment method as it gets withdraw from my bank account. Quite secure in my opinion. Also got a confirmation from Andover after I made payment. Like their new system. Much improvement from the old way where I had to Fax my payment information. Happy Camper here. :D
