Anyone have any experience with these new-release silencers.....how is the build/power/sound?

I am willing to give them a go.

We need to compare them to what was previously sold. I got mine from AN maybe 7-8 years ago. Norton logo. Loud so I put in a set of mutes also from AN. They take the very top end, some of the sharpness of the noise off. Would really like a quieter set but mine are in top shape so rather unwilling to ditch them and replace.

Both of mine cracked at the bottom seem. May have been vibration, but both looked weakened from internal corrosion. I found seamless ones from RGM, to give a try. I can't bring myself to remove the header to silencer clamp. But that would probably reduce vibration at that bottom seem.

I was talking about the reverse cone diameter seam. Don't know if there is a bottom seam on these.

Might just be the picture, but the silencer on the left looks to have a larger outlet than the one on the right. Regardless of that and given they have the original baffles etc I wonder whether they'll have the lovely "chirp" or whistle" that was so distinctive of the first peashooters?

There is a bottom seem. It was the seem you see at the far end, in the photo you posted, that failed on mine.

I can't comment on the build quality, but if they have baffles with three rows of flutes they will sound glorious. I've tried the type with perforated tube baffles & the don't even come close. Also, the best way to stop them cracking from vibration is to not tighten the silencer to header clamp.

Elegant,
I have these silencers on mine now for about 3 months now with no problems. They sound nice and don’t see any power loss whatsoever

The 1970 model brochure show the Fastback and Roadster had seamed silencers. But all the photo advertisements show the '70 Roadsters had seamless.

Makes no sense at all. It is hard to determine if the brochure has color drawings or photos of an actual bike..

Maybe the '70 Fastback got seamed silencers and the Roadster and S got seamless for design purposes. Who knows.

'70 Brochure....with seams. This looks like a drafers board rendition. The Roadster and "S" are positioned exactly the same.

The description on the website was just changed from “original style baffling” to just “sound deadening”. Not sure if that is anything significant but as they come at a premium over others such as Commando Specialties, I would hope they are more like the originals/better reproductions.

Elegant,
I don’t know who makes the silencers for Commando Specialties but they are good people to deal with.

Emgo I think. Mine from CS died after 1200 mi. My Toga ones died after about the same.

My one original Norton logo pipe is still fine.

I never use the silencer clamps

I went for the seamless. Couldn’t find any actual original 70 or 71 bikes with seamed silencers, despite what the above brochure drawings indicate. All photos of original ‘70-71 bikes i saw all had seamless.

Of all the pipes I've used over the years , my fav. was the O.E.M. 70 S. type , with fiberglass backings and baffles. The wonderful chirp chirp chirp on the throttle back off made my day. Yes I'm a birder. Try those though and let us know.
