FWIW, Alton now has a revised rotor for their Norton Estart that looks extremely substantial.

Here's a pic of the original one on my bike http://i208.photobucket.com/albums/bb84 ... 757ae4.jpg

And here's the current version. The magnet retainer ring is the stainless steel "ring" around the circumference of the rotor. In the original version, the magnets are glued and the retainer is glued/crimped. In the current version, the retainer is probably twice as thick and it has a flange so it is now bolted to the rotor.

Long enough to know that when I post pics that are too large to show up in the post, you'll fix it. :)

They still self destruct if the air gap is not right or if chain case stud is not set perfectly an causes air gap to alter as cover is fitted.
Trust me they do.
But Alton are very understanding if the worst happens .

They are, indeed. I have dealt with other good companies but Alton's customer support is the best I have seen.

They should be as the early customers are the testers...

As with any product, they have tested but sometimes the product is subjected to conditions that were thought not to exist or are outside of the specifications. I was told of one example where the starter was installed in a Commando whose rear wheel had 10cm of side to side motion, not only that, but the engine and transmission were loose in the cradle, of course the new starter had a problem and of course IT was given a bad rap by the buyer

When Alton finds a problem, they fix it.
