A friend of mine has just bought a featherbed frame in a job lot of other Norton bits. When he got it home, it proved to be a bit of a mystery.

Can anybody shed some light as to it's origin. The details are as follows:

1. Wideline Featherbed Frame;
2. all the joints are brazed;
3. the swing-arm holes are 5/8"
4. the centre stand lugs are under the frame, not on top;
5. there is an extra cross-tube in the bottom rails, that carries the bottom engine plate lugs;
6. the frame number is: NORV 12003264

The "V" in the frame number suggests it's a very late model, after the resurrection of Norton with the "Villiers" addition to the name and before the announcement of the Commando.

Late model but a wideline ?

Even just in NZ I know four people who have made featherbed replica frames. I have a replica slimline stamped with a 1956 number !

Could honestly be anything including one of probably hundreds of replica frames.

My 1957 Wideline has a 14 then the frame number under it on my 1960 Slimline frame it has a 18 then the frame number stamped under it these are both orginal Featherbed frames so I say your friend Featherbed frame might be a replica frame that someone has stamped a number on it.
