My wrist hurts:lighter action clutch. Any alternatives?

Probably. The key is to get the stack height as listed @ Old Britts or Dyno Dave's web sites. It doesn't make any difference whether the height is taken up with clutch plates or pressure plate.
It is also the same theory on CNW's easy pull clutch. He's basically selling you a whole packaqe that is predetermined at the right height.
Try sourcing an extra steel plate and see if it will fit. Install it at the bottom (back).

Is the clutch working? It is possible the lever arm has fallen off the roller in the gear box were the clutch cable enters. If this happens, you will have little or no clutch disengagement and VERY stiff pull.

The clutch does work, but the pull is very, very stiff. I thought at first maybe a bad cable routing job, but it doesn't feel like cable bind to me.

A Commando clutch may be a very hard one if the cable is not of the proper length, even if you pass it the right way. A 1 inch difference is enough to change the nature of the lever action. Venhill are the correct length, those send by Andover Norton seem a bit long. Before trying expensive hydraulic gadget, check the cable length. (And have a pinta with the spared money)

Hydraulic clutch...

I just installed a Magura from a CR250 Honda on my Mk2 and now the clutch is as sweet as it can be, my main problem was the grabiness and lack of progressivity of the stock set up; it took the bigger part of 45 minutes. I'll try to make a picture and post it if anyone shows interest.

I did switch from US bars to lower Euro bars so maybe the longer cable is giving me trouble.

I did buy a Norman White teflon lined cable but have yet to install it.

The clutch lever only has to be pulled in about 3/4 of the way for it to catch, but it still is stiff. My initial clutch, bitch session was before I actually took the thing for a spin, but the action is still bothering me after a while.

Hopefully with the Magura lever and the new cable, my stiff clutch action will sort itself out.

Its the length of the inner in relation to the outer that could be the problem, I too had a stiff clutch until I fitted a Venhill cable and now it is really light. Before I fitted the Venhill I compared it to the old and it had a different length inner cable.

Source for Venhill cables?

I am unfamiliar with the Venhill cables, where does one buy them? I have the same problem, the clutch is super stiff.

How do I know what length of clutch cable is correct for a Mk2A, considering perhaps the old one is the wrong length and contributing to the problem?

Thanks.

I didn't measure my old one before buying a new replacement. I simply ordered one for Euro bars and away I went. I'll get to replacing the cable when I start ripping things apart to replace the handle bar controls and levers.

Thanks...

Thanks for the information, that is what I needed to know. If Venhill supplies Andover Norton, then the OEM Norton replacment cable I have
(not yet installed) may actually be Venhill-made. However, I see they also offer the Featherlight series, which is teflon lined, rather than nylon, for even lower friction. So I will get one of these through one of the UK retailers. Thanks again.
