I inherited my brother's '66 Bonneville in 1993 or so, and took it with me when I moved to Melbourne, Australia. It was basically done but needed final assembly and running in. My brother lived near Boston, MA and a guy named George Samuel (as I recall) did the work. It was .060 over and a very nice, strong runner. It didn't have a '66 grey top seat (thankfully, ugh) and was painted silver, which I felt made it look drab. I spray-bombed it the way I wanted, not paying too much attention to originality, but it came out well.
I rode it all around Melbourne. One time I went for a club ride with some crazies, riding up to Kinglake & marvelling at them passing over the double yellow on blind corners and generally risking life and limb for some reason. I held back, bike fast enough, but I don't have a death wish. Money problems forced a sale, I wanted to keep it 'forever' given it was my brother's, but you know how things go. Here are pics when my brother had it (with my other brother's red one), then after my rattle-can paint job, just before boxing it up myself and shipping it down under.
