Latest "face" of my "many faced" Norton, currently with black Interstate tank and seat, with cool little EMGO cafe fairing:

Sadly, I can't find a picture of the tank I had on it when I FIRST "restored" it back in 2004. (I'm no CNW, and just a marginal mechanic at best) It was an absolutely GORGEOUS "Emerald metal flake green." An even MORE sadly, that gas tank was fiberglass ... and the paint job was ruined by ethanal gasoline; just made me sick. The bike was a gift to me from my older brother in 2003, that he found at a garage sale for $300. He gave it to me as a surprise "thank you" for all the work I had done on his bikes. (Honda CB750, CB900, a Goldwing, and a Triumph 650.) And even more sad, he passed away on Christmas Day in 2003.
Amazing how many "different" Nortons you can have with changing gas tanks, seats, sidecovers, and handlebars, and it is still the EXACT SAME BIKE. 8) Hey wait just a doggone minute ... is that what Harley does

That is great, many people talk about overnight make-overs, here is the perfect illustration.

I have a brand new rear hub knave plate if you are interested.

Great chronology! So sorry to hear about your brother. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain shouting out anti-Hi-Rider rhetoric.

I'm thinking that bar end mirrors and the Corbin seat makes another great face with the fairing

So you got a chance to test all the different models.

In the end did they all ride about the same? :D

Note to anyone asking, my bike is serial number *****blah blah blah, can anyone tell me what model it left the factory as -----------see above.

I am more than impressed at your sense of style. I like the High Rider if no one else does. I would like your thoughts on the fairing and how much wind protection it provides. I am looking for something that directs the wind at least over eye level while sitting fairly erect. I had a Beemer R1150RTP with electric adjustable windshield and I had to run with it fully up in order to get the wind just over the helmet top. Thanks for the great pics of your bike.

You willingly turned a Roadster into a Hi-Rider?
Did you loose a bet or something?

Nah, didn't lose ... or bet anything. :) I always just kinda liked the Hi Rider myself, even though most "seemingly" did not. However, their must have been enough who liked it, or Norton "thought" they liked it ... for them to continue offering it right thru to the 1975 MK III model. First Norton I ever saw was a Hi Rider, painted in ""Metalflake Brown" ... like the 1975 Honda CB500T was. (circa 1976, and I think that Norton was a 1974 850.) So, obviously a repaint ... but man was it gorgeous IMO. I guess that first Norton look really made an impression on me, so much I still like it. When I had Brent "the Vintage Vendor" on this forum paint my "Black and Gold" Hi Rider tank ... I ALMOST went with the 1975 Honda CB500T Metal Flake Brown. Maybe in the future ?

And here is what it looked like at the 2015 Norton "Carolina Rally "

The small EMGO universal fairing ... provides NO wind protection that I can tell. :( But I think it looks cool. 8) It came on my latest Kawasaki KZ1000 I bought four months ago, and I thought it would be better on the Norton. I also have a Windjammer fairing and bracket that I've had mounted on this Norton too, although no pictures I can find. I might soon put that on again; as it DOES block the wind very well. :) Plus, how many Nortons do you see with a Windjammer fairing mounted now a days ?

FWIW, my 1999 Buell "Cyclone" has a Buell "Thunderbolt" fairing on it, and that provides NO wind protection either, but I think it LOOKS cool. 8)

The fairing blends in very well. Hard to find the perfect fairing match-up with these bikes . Job well done. Is you Interstate tank aftermarket. If so may I inquire where it was purchased. I am requiring one for my build. Unfortunately my present glass tank will be shelved .

Thanks,

Nice transformations. I like the Interstate look.
You dont have a steel Roadster tank you want to get rid of do you? :D

Yup..........Mine too.....

Yes ... I must admit I like the "Fireflake Royal Blue" alot too :) it"s like having a several Nortons, what with just changing tanks, seats, etc. the paint was done by Brent, great job and great to work with. He is on this forum, and has done work for many. Check out his web site below:

Very cool!

I'm kinda going down a similar road, keeping parts on the shelf and changing from Roadster to Interstate, pillion to solo, cafe racer to upright, etc as my mood / need requires.

It adds another element of enjoyment to the bike in my opinion.

I don't have any plans to add Hi Rider parts to the mix though ...

Very cool to see those many faces of he same bike. It will be in your life forever I imagine, my older brother is my best friend, a bike like this is to be treasured and enjoyed.
So many seat and tank combinations. I really like the dual Corbin style seat and those roadster tanks in metal flake? Sweet!
